Madonna........love her or hate her?

I was never a big fan of hers but I do like a couple of her songs. My favorite is "Vogue."

until she decided to scrap her original "American Life" video (which, BTW, was AWESOME). Now look at her doing in-store appearances and hocking Gap wares.

"Express Yourself" "Open Your Heart" "Like a Prayer" and "Vogue" are her best.

That techno one of recent was her only recent song that's good too, "Ray of Light".

I can tell you that the way to sell your new children's book is to NOT stick your tongue down Britney's throat the week before your book comes on the market...
For someone who is so focused on image it was not a good move.

but now it's been requested, so we have to. Somehow I doubt it's a new "Chika Chika Boom Boom." The reviews are just BAAAAAD.

Sucks that as budgets are shrinking we have to spend money on stuff like that.

She is creative, smart, talented, and not afriad to "express herself". For those reasons, I really admire her.

I think her talent is highly overrated, but I respect her shrewd ability to keep her mediocrity in the limelight for as long as she has. She's definitely took in some big bucks. As a personality, I have found her to be self absorbed and condescending.

She's had a few good songs and a few good acting roles, but so have a lot of other people.

What's she's best at is selling Madonna, Inc. and her less-than-octave range.

11. I never cared for her.

Between the "material girl" image and what I find to be pretty soul-less music output, she just never did anything for me.

However, I admire the fact that she stuck her neck out to speak against the war.

She pissess off the right, so that's a plus.

I've seen her in concert twice, and honestly, she works her ASS off on stage. I REALLY like performers who work hard at it, and she's one of them.

Plus, she's been such a good friend to gay people and AIDS issues.

But most of all, I admire her tenacity. There's no way that 20 years ago I would've expected her to be a big star after all this time. I thought she was a couple-hit wonder who made it big on MTV and would fade away like all the rest. She's one of the few new MTV artists who are still around and going strong. She's brilliant at being Madonna, which is her main talent. Her second best talent is modeling - she photographs beautifully even though she's really NOT that pretty. Her singing is only OK, and her acting is worse.

That woman is a symbol of meaningless, corporate-marketing driven culture if ever there was. It's no coincidence she hit it big in the Reagan era when real art was under attack.

Compare the Britney/Christina kisses (oh! how shocking!) with the smooch that went down at the Tony's earlier this year. You remember that kiss, right? That's the one that meant something.
