God, I hate that double s. Even if you're spelling phonetically, the words "Lose" and "Loose" don't even sound the same.

4. A good old dear friend of mine

was a total Grammar Cop, but he was really funny about it. He had a very animated face and when waitresses would ask him, "Are you done?" he'd scrunch his face up and imitate his waspy grandfather in a commanding voice, "I am not done my dear, however, I HAVE finished!"

He also had a big bad problem with people using "quote" as noun. He'd say adamantly, "I do believe the word is quotation."
