I did this once. Though, as soon as I pulled away from the pump and felt the tug, I stopped and went inside to shamefacedly confess.

Luckily the owner of the place was a friend of mine and he was laughing at me so hard that he didn't even ask me to pay for it.

I don't know how it happened - spaced out, in a hurry, probably on my way to pick up a kid or something. Felt like a complete fool.

I believe that's why they make detachable hoses these days...
