cheap, reliable ISP???
I'm trying to recommend an ISP for my father (who is new to computing) which has the CHEAPEST rate for a dial-up (he lives in VA, and is ticked off at Verizon, so he won't deal with them or AOL)...thanks in advance for any suggestions

1. Check your phone book for a local
isp. That's what I started out with before I went with my cable company.

2. Here's one.
A friend of mine runs it on a part-time basis, but hey, it's cheap.

3. Our local ISP is cheap.
Consolidated Communications/McLeod USA. DSL $19.95/mo., no setup fees, etc. . Check with a local company.

4. Go to nearest Walmart and....
pick up one of their free disk for dial-up internet access. He'll get unlimited dial-up access for a monthly fee of $9.95.

It's the only Walmart product I've bought in 17 months, but it was such I good bargain that I couldn't give it up. :-)

5. thanks for the input...
I've been thinking about some companies local to my dad, but I currently live 1000 miles away, so it hasn't been easy

6. 6.95 a month for 100 hours per month
That's a little over 3 hours a day. Would that work? Nationwide service & plenty of access numbers.

7. perhaps Netscape or Earthlink ...
saw a commercial for this a few days ago ... it's really cheap and might be worth a try:

fwiw, my dad (he's 83) uses Earthlink and really likes them ... he constantly has all kinds of problems with email, printing, etc and Earthlink customer support seems willing to help him out whenever he calls ... i think they're something around $20 per month but they give a small discount if you're over 65 ...

8. I just got an ad in the mail from
Peoplepc.
Unlimited access for $4.97 per month for the first 3 months (there is a star by the amount so I would guess the price goes up after the 3 months are up..
It says
download our software at
<http://www.peoplepc.com/go/medal2>

Check to see that they have a toll free access in your area. I had peoplepc at one time when I bought a computer from them. Had no problems with getting online.
