There are parts of Baltimore I know well where the dealers just line up on the street and flag you down. A lot of them sell crack but can probably get a ounce of pot too. I've been tempted to stop, but am just terrified of getting arrested -- it would probably get me fired and ruin my life. So I don't.

When I watch my niece and nephew (ages 8 and 12) I am more "with" them, more attentive and attuned to them. I am sure it is different when the kids are your own. Other issues come into play.
I can smoke daily or go without. I sometimes have a stash and I don't touch it for days. Other times I smoke from when i get up til I go to sleep.

Not only does it not kill brain cells, proper brain function requires it!
Several brain sub-organs have receptors for cannabis type substances. The clue was that if the brain did not have receptors for it, it would not have such profound effects. All this is new, in the last ten years.
SciAm even has an editorial panning the Fed for obstructing research in this area.

A Canadian snowboarder was disqualified because they found a teeny tiny amount in his system. He swore he didn't smoke any, in anticipation of the event. He had attended a party where it was being smoked. He lost the gold medal.
Only in snowboarding, would pot be considered a 'performance enhancing drug.'

I like being stoned too much. When I lost two jobs in a row as a result of getting stoned before work, and when my wife (at that time: pregnant girlfriend) threatened to leave me if I didn't clean myself up, I just quit.
And that's why I think all of these people who claim that marijuana is addictive are idiots. I smoked at least ten joints a week for six years straight (and we're talking fatties, none of that toothpick crap), and when I decided to quit, I just did it. No patches, no withdrawals, no cravings. I kind of missed being stoned when life got stressful, but there was nothing to indicate any kind of addiction.
Today I'm so clean that I don't even drink coffee. I've come to appreciate the benefits of having a pollutant-free, well kept body, and I don't ingest anything that isn't organic or which doesn't serve an actual operational purpose (except for my green and oolong teas...I can't survive without them). No grudge against those who choose to partake, but I believe that a clear mind gives me a better appreciation for the world around me.

I have a feeling that there are countless people (because they aren't as candid) with similar experiences. The myth of marijuana addiction is just silly. The history of cannibus and its relationship with mankind is complicated, but I have a feeling that evolutionary strategies of the homo sapiens and cannibus sativa wouldn't have allowed the plant to have addictive qualities. It's also one of those illicit substances that is nontoxic. Ever hear of a marijuana overdose? I haven't.
Thanks for sharing.

Wife and I are frequent tokers - I'm the "take it or leave it" persona, she's the "fiend" who gets cranky when she doesn't have it. Then again, she's the one with chronic fatigue. There was a period of time when she was suffering from a malformed gallbladder which went improperly diagnosed (thanks, HMO's!) for almost two years. She dropped about 30lbs from her normal weight (around 120 or so) during that time. If it wasn't for the marijuana, she would likely be dead now (we're in our 20's). The only way she was able to eat and keep down food was after she had smoked. Tell me how the government can keep a naturally occuring herb from being 'legal'. I call bullshit, I'm only on this planet once and NO ONE has the right to tell me I can't do what I want with my body. I'd risk jail to save my wife.
Wouldn't you?

Seems Israel is looking to use the kind herb to treat soldiers with PTSD.
I can tell you that it is most effective for many of the symptoms: appetite/stomach troubles, flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, insomnia. The only reason the feds want to keep it illegal is IT WORKS. And it works without addiction or side effects.
I believe that if there is a God, and he or she put that herb on this earth, we have the authority to use it. I, personally would starve without it. I believe those who have incarcerated good, loving, otherwise law-abiding people for this substance are going to be damned for eternity for their lack of empathy and their desire to be more knowledgeable than the Creator as to what is good for man and womankind.

I've really cut down lately though. About six months ago, we had a guest who we smoked with who gave me a hard time about having fun and laughing when we got high. That happened a couple times. Since then, I have only had a couple of really good highs that were in perfect context. Basically, he ruined the smoking experience for me.
