and really good gin. And once in a while, a nice single malt is very appealing. They're all aromatic, smooth, and flavorful.
I just don't understand the fascination with vodka. The better the vodka, the less flavor it has.

I read and posted to the "Worst Christmas Memory?" thread just before I saw your poll. Consequently, that horrid memory was at the forefront of my brain when I posted here.
The few times in my life that I've been drunk, I only acted silly and, as you said, laughed at stupid shit. Though I take after my dad in some ways, being nasty while drunk is not one of them! Mercifully.

30. My Dad Was an Alcoholic, Too |
|
My worst Christmas was during the 18 months his body was wasting to non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
Still, I refuse to let alcohol have that much influence over my life. Which means that although I no longer get drunk (it was fine as a young adult but we all have to grow up eventually), I don't avoid alcohol for the sake of avoiding alcohol.
If I'm not drinking, it's because I feel like drinking. If I am drinking, it's because my friend Tom makes the bestest Bloody Marys in the world.
In all things, moderation is key. I worry about people who drink stuff like Jagermeister, and other boozes I can't even spell, soley for the sake of being drunk. If you're in it for pleasure, why take such a godawful route?

I love my bourbon. I love it with tap water. I love it on the rocks. I gently top it with Diet Coke, but not enough to bruise its spirit. Jim Beam and Old Granddad have have spent many a night dozing under my roof. Love me some damn bourbon.

.... while I'm not averse to drinking cheap liquor or beer, with tequila you have to go with the 100% agave stuff or you are asking to pay for your good time many times over :)
100% agave tequila imparts an alcohol high sublimely better than any other booze I've tried (and I've tried a lot ) and is well worth the extra $$ for a special good time!

I can't pick just one. I like 'em all.
Scotch -- There are a host of excellent scotches out there. Just on the rocks...
Burbon -- This hearken's back to my college days of yesteryear. Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack (actually a mash) is my favorite, but Makers Mark is a close second.
Rum -- My favorite is a Veneszulan Rum called Classic`. Most of the dark rums from the islands are truley stupdendous drings. Capn Morgan's doesn't come close.
Vodka -- My original hard drink, straight on the rocks. I really enjoy Absolut, but Stoli is also excellent. I've gotten to the point where I now mostly drink dry Vodka Martini's.
Gin - Cant stand it, could have something to do with a time I overindulged on Beefeater while a Freshman in college. I can't even smell Gin w/o being nasous.

I actually prefer Diet Coke because it greatly reduces the calories of the drink and I think regular soda is far too sweet, but most people look at me like I am GWB when I say that so I usually regulate it to the text part of the messages. :-)
