I've decided to start worshipping Canada. No, really, I have.
Canada, unlike this country, lives in the 21st century. They don't tend to freak out, on the whole, that there are actually people in the world who aren't straight. They don't freak out over marijuana. They are free to live their lives as they wish, as long as they bring no harm to others. True freedom, ah.

Not only can you be proudly liberal there, but if you stood on a street corner and yelled out "I'M A SOCIALIST!" people just really wouldn't bat an eye. Someone *might* say "So?"

I understand we do export our worst TV shows up there, but I'm sure I'd be freer than I am now from the Lying Yappity-Yaps on TV.

Any country that gives us "DeGrassi" has got to be good.

So I shall worship Canada. I shall randomly shout, while in public, "PRAISE CANADA AND ALL THINGS CANADIAN!"

Tell me MORE about Canada that I can praise and give worship to!

Serious coin money - one dollar and two dollar coins. And you can tell what they are, too. They don't look and feel like hexagonal quarters like some other coins I could mention.

All hail Canada!

15. Canadians may not "freak out" over pot...
but it is still illegal. Penalties are much less for it there, and often police will use discretion and just confiscate small amounts.

The debate to decriminalize it there should be a common sense one. A big fat fine for possession of small amounts is a much smarter move than injecting those folks into the criminal justice system. Growing it and selling it would remain criminal matters.
America just don't understand the issue...thus the freaking out!

And you can't walk down the street naked there if you feel like it. No, not true freedom!

well I didn't want to walk down the street naked, so I guess that's ok.

But you made my point--they are far more common sense. Far less likely to have the fundie freak out reaction.

49. In public, so long as it isn't for...
...sexual purposes, like a strip tease for example.

So walking down the street topless is okay for a woman or a man.

If you watch Toronto's Gay Pride parade or saw the SARS concert, you'd see women flashing their breasts everywhere.

57. "Flashing" is not indicitive of legality!
I've seen women flash at events also. If they walked down the street with tits out the next day they'd be arrested.
Again, is it legal? I don't think so.

58. Nope, it's legal....
I went to University with Gwen Jacobs, who back in 1991 decided to walk home from school, topless, in 33C weather. She was arrested, charged and convicted of indecency, a ruling that was later overturned by the Ontario Supreme Court.

As a result, it's legal for women to go topless.

Here's an article that's a summary of various news stories.

http://www.fcn.ca/Gwen.html

Even the Freepers post about it: http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/939537/posts

But you are correct on the shirtless thing. I forgot about that, I noticed it back then also.

I don't think many women in Ontario have made use of this new freedom though....I've never heard a whisper of it going on.

Dude, several years ago there was a big protest in Toronto, the capital of Canada, where a bunch of women protested topless against Canadian anti-topless women laws for hours in the middle of the street and they SHOWED IN ON THE FRICKING NEWS!!! THE WHOLE FRICKING THING SANS PIXELLATION! Jesus Christ it's like you're fucking Brazil or something.

26. You mean "They're not so fab, eh?"
The "eh" is placed at the end of a sentence to indicate a response from the listener would be welcome but implied agreement will sufice.

"Eh" is one of the most badly understood and misreprented aspects of Canadiana in America...along with the temperature, hockey, and SCTV.

SCTV particularly is used as a Canadian stereotyping tool by Americans who don't grasp the fact that the show is a parody.

Praise "eh".
