Of the HUNDREDS of pieces of "art" that have been flashed before
my poor abused eyes this semester, there's only ONE I like.

Bacon, Study after Velazquez's portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1953

I wanted to put on a chimp suit and fling poo at the rest :eyes:

1. "Putting on a chimp suit and flinging poo at them"
Sounds brilliant!

When is the performance?

4. Why do you like it?
It is striking, but what drew your attention to this particular piece?

5. It appeals to me. It's cool. I'd hang it on my wall.
It's dark, and pisses on institution. Which institution it pisses on is irrelevant, I'm not anti-Catholic.

7. The subject is dark, but the colors are intense. The contrast may
be what appeals to you. Stupid question: It is paint, isn't it? It almost looks like it could be charcoal, though.

8. Yeah, I think it's paint
I dunno, the only other artist I really enjoy is H.R. Giger, and his work is a lot of greys

11. Nice, give us a pic when you're done
I ran across a tattoo site recently, there's a picture of a guy with a full Giger backpiece, and Giger is there for the photograph, pretty cool!

17. when i have more time...
I will send you the two pics I want images from. I am sure you will recognize them if you are familiar. I have a shitload of giger pics stored on some random yahoo photo album (I have about 8 yahoo ID's) I need to find.

this tat I want is not going to be for awhile. My sleeve will take forever.

I believe I saw that backpiece tat you are talking about. ($$$$$$$)

10. I admit that I had to look him up. Wow - that is some seriously
dark art. I'm actually more into photographic art (Man Ray in particular), but Giger is definitely interesting.

14. Why - it's not like he's Ansel Adams or something?
I like his holocaust photos more than his nudes, but I saw an exhibit in DC one year and really thought it was good.

15. I think his work, and anything associated with Dadaism is shit.
And if it were all thrown into a huge pile, covered with gasoline, I wouldn't lift a finger to stop it from being burned.

But that's just me, Stalin through and through

I agree that his nudes are in the dadaism shit pile, but again, his holocaust pictures are amazing. I don't want to argue with you though - you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

6. That's a great one.
Saw a black and white of it in my art history book in college. Didn't know the colors were that striking.

18. Looks like an old guy in pain as he passes gas...
Silly joke aside, I rather do adore the use of brush strokes.

The colors are simple and effective.

It actually is an inspiring work of art.
