Second-hand pot smoke
whenever I go to parties where people are smoking pot I get a little worried if I ever get drug tested for work it'll show up. Can second-hand pot smoke show up, if so for how long afterwords, how far away should you be, etc?

3. No.
Unless you are in a concentrated area with it like in a sealed car or under a blanket you'll be fine.

"Second hand marijuana smoke in a car can cause you to fail the next day" (Nightbyrd). It is possible that second hand smoke will raise someone to the 50 ng/mL level; however, *extreme* exposure is required. For instance, a closed car full of pot smokers and a non-smoker may render the non-smoker positive for both urinalysis and the hair test, provided that they are sealed in the car for a while. The Army did a case study where volunteers were put in a room pumped full of smoke for an hour, five time daily. Subjects started testing positive after the second day. The non-smoker would have to take in virtually as much second hand smoke as a smoker. Non-smokers are safe in a ventilated area, as long as they don't get a hair test. According to Clinton, simply blowing crack smoke on ones hair may cause a positive hair test. Second hand pot smoke doesn't affect the hair test results as much as crack smoke does mainly because exhaled smoke contains no THC. The only pot smoke that contains THC is the smoke that hasn't entered the lungs.

6. The GC test has a lower threshold
I think around 10, which is bad news for someone who takes medicines that could cause false positives for the cheap test. The usual procedure for randoms, for cause tests, and sometimes employment screenings is to test failing cheap tests with the GC. If you get second hand pot smoke you could easily fail the GC test.

7. I heard of a cop who sued his employer because of a false positive...
drug test. He loved poppy seeds or something like that, and during a random screening, he failed, and either got fired or suspended without pay, I know he got some money out of that. But these tests are fucking stupid anyways.

8. Poppy seeds can get you a false positive for opiates...
...but there's nothing, not even OTC meds, that can cause a false positive for THC.

Would that there were... :)

9. what if you live w/ a frequent smoker
I don't go into the room when he's smoking, but it still spreads across the apartment and I'm exposed to just a bit of pot smoke every day. Can I test positive because of that?

10. I used to hear that all the time.
Worked in a community center. Several clients would be assigned random screenings, and come up positive for THC. Over and over, it was not them that smoked - heavens, no - it was "the guys in the ice fishing house" or "the guys in the van on the way to the concert". Yeah, right, Captain Herbalife. It became kind of a joke among the staff.

You can't get enough via second hand smoke to test positive.

11. Depends.

12. I've gotten high from second hand pot smoke
Sitting in a circle with three people smoking pot. Wouldn't that make one test positive the next day?

13. You'd just about have to be in each others' laps
with a blanket covering all your heads. Even then, it's not likely.

14. But one hit would test positive for over a week?
Not everyone is as efficient as a pot smoker as possible. Some people don't hold in the smoke long at all. Some people let the joint or pipe burn. Does a couple feet of air really filter out all the THC?

16. Yes. A couple of feet of air will do it.
And regardless of what you may have heard, not everyone will test positive after only one hit. Especially after a week!
