4. I actually work for a Republican State Senator here in Ohio...

A good man who is always at odds with me when it comes to politics. He isn't your typical RW as he embraces a lot of the liberal social agenda and so has made a few enemies down in Columbus....

He had tickets to see GW when he came to my home town right before the election and gave them out to all the people in the office. Out of the ten people, seven are dems and he knows it. Still gave out the seats because he believes that people should be able to go and see the president if they can....

So, we disagree on a lot but let me tell you, he is one of the few dissident voices in the Ohio Senate......

I can't imagine how I'd know though, unless they made a racist, sexist or homophobic joke or said something in praise of Bush. I don't know that I'd hire someone who came out as a Kerry supporter in the first ten minutes of our aquaintance either. I just think it shows bad judgement to out your political persuasion apropos of nothing to people you've known less than a day.

I'd question the judgement of anyone who got too political during a job interview. The only way I could see it coming up in a reasonable manner is if they had on their resume that they'd worked on a republican campaign.

I'f they're unwise enough to throw politics into an office environment -- during an interview, no less -- they're not wise enough to work for me.

If their resume included campaign work, then you could discuss what their duties, challenges, etc. were. But no Koolaid-drinking moments. I'd worry that they'd mess with the rest of the employees.

My company has an unwritten rule -- don't discuss politics in the office (unless you already know the person's predispositions -- i.e., that they agree with you -- and can be sure you won't disrupt the workplace).

At least, not your typical interview. If somebody had on their resume, however, "Vice President of XYZ Univerity's Chapter of College Republicans" then that person's resume is into the shredder.

But, how does that come up in an interview? I don't think it's appropriate to ask it right out and I'm not the type to advertise my politics at work.

can never have too many bikes, just have to remember to take them all out for a spin - don't want to neglect them! i'm a cyclist, not fast at all tho (comfortable at about 12-14 mph) but i love it! pains my poor hubby to ride so slow, he is comfortable at 18-20mph.

All our vacations are cycling and watching bike races. Last year was the Spring Classics - i biked the last 75km of the Tour of Flanders (okay - i ended up walking part of the Muur – Kapelmuur...) This years gonna be the Vuelta!

I'm quite sure it doesn't come up in the interview. Would I hire someone who showed up for the job interview in a Nazi suit, no I wouldn't. But chances are, you don't know the political opinions of people who apply for a job.

I'd have to say that yes I would hire someone who is a right winger, as I would expect them to hire me also. I don't like intolerance, do you?

29. I did accidentally once...

Seemed normal enough at first, and enthusiastic. Later found out this guy would go out and sit in his car during his lunch hour and listen to Rush Limbaugh. Then after a few weeks, he started coming back from lunch and spraying some of the Rush misinformation around the office. He was also worthless as an employee... in two months I don't think I got anything billable out of him -- turns out he bullshitted me on his experience, too, so I terminated him.

I've had almost no luck with hiring employees. The last few were total washouts...
