Poll question: Do you have any pets?
I think people to the left are more likely to have pets. They seem to have more feelings for all life. They are more in tune with nature!

1. The more you read here
the more you'll realize we are nuts about our pets! I'm typing one handed because I have to hold the cat with my other hand.

6. Cats and dogs
I have 2 dogs and 4 cats. I also have shelters with heaters set up for the outdoor wild cats that come by. Have a family of 5. Also a number of other cats come by at times. I've always had pets in my household. Animals seem to brighten up ones life under all circumstances that happen.

I don't have any currently, but I will before too long. Just a few more months and out of this apartment. Then I'll get me some snuggle buddies.

9. Thanks
The insomnia is recent, a combination of exam-stress and coffee consumption. It's mainly the stress I think since I´ve been drinking coffee by the gallons for several months now.

I keep saying that I need to cut back, but then I'm up all night and need the coffee to stay awake. Go figure.

Maybe for my Christmas present I'll just sleep for a few days straight :)

29. she's a red eared slider
we've been worried about her, she had a respitory infection. we just finished giving her a weeks worth of antibiotic shots. but i tentatively think she's ok now.

in the past we've had snakes, and various rodents too, so our current population is rather restrained. at the moment i'm fighting off the temptation of aquiring a baby gerbil.

18. 4 great demo-cats and 2 collies--all strays or from the pound
They are wonderful, though we can never have nice furniture. Our latest collie, Bear, is massive--114 pounds when we got him in August--down to a trim 102 now--but tall and long and certainly eye-catching. They are my first dogs--after a life-time of being a cat person. Angel, our sweet, lovable female collie, actually mangled my sister's pit bull's ear during a wrestling match. Our youngest cat, Tigger, used to go ballistic and swat at the TV when Trent Lott came on the screen. Sometimes when we are sitting on the couch with 6 animals around us, we think it's sick--but mostly we love it.

16. Heh--you have't been around long
but DU is FILLED with animals. And I don't mean the human variety! The lounge is often filled with great pictures and stories about the "kids" and their antics. Plus, there is a Pets group as well. :)

For some reason, cats outnumber dogs--at least at last count they did.

20. Took in two stray cats and rescued a dog
My wife and I just couldn't resist bringing all three pets into our home and we're very pleased with each of them. Garfield, the oldest cat, was born under a trailer near our sons house. We had never been cat people but when we went to look, we just couldn't leave without him. We tried to get his brother, but he wouldn't come out from under the trailer.

Jordan, our second cat, was a stray that was out walking and being chased by a group of young halloweeners. He came by our house and has been here since. Both have been neutered, declawed and are two of the nicest pets you could ever find. Garfield looks just like the Garfield from the cartoon and Jordan earned his name with his leaping ability which is incredible to watch. That cat can jump so high, he reminded us of Michael Jordan and the name stuck.

Our dog came through a rescue shelter known as Second Chance For Animals. Although she's seven years old, Babe is a very loving and wonderful dog. She already had her name and we simply decided to keep it as is. She's a Borgi, a beagle/corgi mix and we can tell you from experience that is a great mix. She is terrific with both cats, loves children and follows us where ever we go.

We've had Garfield for seven years, Jordan for five and Babe was our newest addition this past summer. No way would we ever trade these wonderful pets. They bring so much joy and offer plenty of love.

23. I had a Garfield when I was a kid
she was the meanest cat I ever knew. Once, when we lived in Charleston, she had to have an alligator tooth removed from her leg. Made me wonder what the gator looked like.

21. 3 cats, parakeet, turtle, fish
actually the fish is one of several feeder fish my husband bought for the turtle and it has avoided the turtle for months. I can't stand to watch the turtle eat fish and am now attached to the thing! Once I name the fish, I'll really be attached and then it will probably get eaten. :(

25. We have the following pets:
One 110 pound mutt--half chocolate lab and half chesapeake bay retriever. He thinks he is a lap dog. :-)

One leopard gecko--this makes a great pet for a kid once you get past the fact that it eats crickets and meal worms.

Two White's tree frogs--one adult and one baby. The baby is so cute, it rides piggy back on the adult frog, similar to what a koala bear would do. Again, they make great pets when you get over the eating crickets thing.

Assorted tropical fish.

We used to have guinea pigs, too. But, discovered that the kids are horribly allergic to them. They're also allergic to cats. For some reason, the dog is okay though. But, that is why we switched to non-fur pets.
