What does the RW think of Boohbah?
I personally think it is like a televised acid trip for toddlers...actually kind of entertaining!

1. I don't know, but they probably think all the Boohbahs
are nasty phallic symbols.

Thank you, I completely agree...
They gross me out. I find the show absolutely stupid. Even my 2 1/2 yr old doesn't like it.

26. Oh, I'm not grossed out by them. I find the show a little bizarre,
but apparently part of the intent is to get kids up and interested in exercise/dance/moving around.

It was created by the same woman who created the Teletubbies.

My kids don't watch more than five minutes of it before running off to do something else.

He has yet to declare his political leanings, but we're taking his love of animals and children as a positive sign.

6. My reason for this post
was all the hullabaloo over Jerry Falwell and the Teletubbies. Tinky Winky is gay because he is purple and carries a "purse".

7. Well, then, good old Falwell ought to have a field day
condemning those uncirc'd phallic symbol Boohbahs. Is this getting too close to a sex thread, I wonder?

I'm serious, though. That was one of the first things I thought of when I first saw the show - the RWCC reaction.

8. Me too
The first time I saw the show, my daughter was in the hospital (2 years old at the time). She was very entertained by it, my husband and I thought it was hilarious, but I did think about Falwell at the time.

9. Tinky Winky also has a triangle on his head
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 04:16 PM by CornField
And there's at least one episode where he wears a pink skirt and dances about.

If you ask me, the African American community should be up in arms about the green one. His face is darker than the others, his favorite thing is a big ole top hat, he has a large phallic symbol on his head, *AND* his name is "Dipsy." What do you want to bet his middle name is Russell?

/sarcasm

Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 04:51 PM by dolo amber
He started out palefaced and gradually got darker as the show progressed. Watch early episodes and it's really obvious. Probably some market research reaction to calls for diversity or something.

(Plus, he does wear a totally pimped-out hat...;))

22. I thought I read that the actor who plays (played?) him is black
and that's why they made Dipsy darker . . . it's been a few years since I read about it though so I'm not sure.

THAT would be scary!

I saw that show once, and I said "Those look like a bunch of un-circked peckers withs TWO eyes!"

Glad to find out I'm not the ONLY one who thinks that...

19. My mom was against the Teletubbies...
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 04:56 PM by LoZoccolo
...but not for any reason that she thought Tinky Winky was gay or any right-wing reason because she's not right-wing. She teaches child development at a community college and says that the "baby talk" that the Teletubbies speak could possibly stunt language growth a little bit because if you want children to learn language you just have to speak it correctly around them. Twins have this phenomenon where they start developing their own language amongst themselves and it stunts their language development a little.

27. I've always wondered about that, although supposedly
their language was designed to *help* kids with speaking.

That's why I don't let my kids watch "Max and Ruby" or "Oobi", though. "Max and Ruby" features an obnoxiously bossy older sister and a little brother who speaks in one- or two-word babytalk sentences. I found that my daughter, who is quite articulate, lapsed into babytalk after watching it. "Oobi" is the same way - short, babytalk sentences, and Oobi refers to himself in the third person.

I use "big words" around my children a lot, figuring they'll eventually pick up meanings through context. I want to make sure they understand me, but I talk to them just as I would talk to anyone else.
