1. I don't have a job, and my husband's company didn't have a party. |
|
This is the first time since we've been married that there's no company holiday party to go to.

Good to hear from you! It's been a very weird year for me. My Pop died, two nephews with major surgeries, Hurricane Charley wiped out my city and now my Grammy is not doing well in an ACLF. Wanna do the Inauguration thing. PM me if you are going!

For Christmas, I got a 20% pay cut. :wow: But, like I said I at least have my job and really good, cheap (for me) health insurance. At least it will tide me over while I start looking.
On top of that, I had a HUGE increase in my property taxes. Basically, I'm doing nothing different and I'm about $800 poorer a month. If I didn't have my finances in order beforehand, I would be screwed right now. :-(
All that to say, D.C. is just not in the cards for me.
But, that's all just money. Your losses were far more serious and of real consequence. I hope 2005 is better for you.

5. We didn't have a "real" after-work Christmas party. |
|
We had a department potluck today, which was yummy. And, yesterday, the team all brought lunch, hid out in the lab, and watched "Elf" on DVD. Nothin' like wasting time at work for Christmas!

Funny thing is I'm really no different than I was eight years and a couple jobs ago, when I was about to get fired. Just as clever, working just as hard, just as responsive to customers... a little more experienced now, maybe.
I guess the biggest difference is I work with great people now instead of insane little tyrants...

No.
I work for Catbert and the PHB.
We haven't had an off-campus Xmas lunch with booze available since the re-org 3 years ago...

Drop by the Texas forum and hook us up with the info, we can figure something out there. I'll come and I bet we also could get Fudge Stripe and Reprehensor at least. Denton's not that far! Besides, I haven't been to the theatre in a while. It'd be totally fun! We could drop by Dan's for a beer before or after. Damn, I haven't been to Denton since I went up there for a Slobberbone show a few months ago. I need to remedy that. :)

First the office had a dinner out. The longest day of the year. They never go right after work, but hang around until seven. it grows late, then I have to make my way back to the office, change into comfortable biking clothes and pedal home through the chill. I don't care if it's a free feed. I ain't worth it. And I'm a notorious light drinker.
Then they trained everyone up to the New York today. A dull corporate party. The alternative is either work or take a personal day. Guess which door I chose? And a nice day it was for pedalling my horse about.

The bosses say we all need to come together and be a department and encourage these events because we're all part of a team.
Then they work in the background and later announce to us their plans which will ultimately mean the end of our jobs.
Yeah, that makes us all feel like happy workers, eager for camaraderie.
