What Do Fundy Musicians Do When Confronted with Music Theory?
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 01:12 AM by stopbush
Do they believe that the notes C - E - G form a C Major triad, or do they think something else? What happens when they modulate from one key to another? Did they evolve into a new tonality, or did they spontaneously create a new tonality? Or neither? Should music schools still teach traditional music theory, or should they teach that music developed through some kind of divine intervention, ie: musical creationism? And if it was through intelligent design, how does one explain Clay Aiken? And doesn't the existence of Clay Aiken's career sort of prove that there isn't a god?

After all, the fundamental principles that underline Western music are only a *theory,* don't you know?

CCC=Contemporary Christian Crap.

The fundies will probably revert to outlawing tritones as demonic intervals.

14. Historically, they did that (outlaw tritones)
"diabolus in musica" (the devil in music)...the fundies of their day. You can't help but wonder if they also had their own "Church Lady" as well!

2. Fundie linguists
have to deal with speaking in tongues as the original divine language, and have to explain the divergence in language families as due to post-flood dispersion.

3. You really want to hear something very strange?
I've known church people in the south that didn't like minor Chords or diminished chords. One woman (choir singer) told me that those types of chords are "Racy".

When one Preacher, who I was talking to, found out that I was a Jazz Musician, he told me to my face "You're going straight to hell if you keep playing that Satan music"

You may think I'm puttin' you on...I'm not.

5. They also fear polytonal music, even though most of their church
choirs practice polytonality on an unintentional basis every Sunday. :)

9. Krystof Pendecki was a very religious man
if they really want to be scared, they should listen to his 'Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima'.

God sometimes speaks in strange tongues.

7. To a fundie, music theory must be a machiavellian left-wing conspiracy
... after all, it's only a "theory", right? LOL!
