I can wiggle my ears (together or individually). I can also take a soda can and stick it to the palm of my hand and hold it upside down so it won't fall off and it's stuck good enough it doesn't get pulled off easily.

6. I can read faster than anyone I know.
I read Harry Potter IV on a two-leg, short-layover flight from SLC to MKE. The flight attendant was impressed.

This helps with my work, and with research in general. It doesn't, however, make for a good party trick.

8. Numbers, Numbers, Numbers
I can extract up to the 10th root of numbers as large as 12 digits in my head. I can't do it instantaneously, but i can usually do it in under 15 seconds to about the 3rd decimal places. Not a very useful skill. Doesn't come up much at parties.

I can within a few seconds determine to the 3rd decimal place what fraction a certain percent is of almost any number. (Like, "what's 72.4% of $247,500?") When something like that comes up in a meeting, everyone in the room looks at me for the answer.

On the golf course, i can triangulate the distance to the flag based upon distance from middle and position of ball almost instantly. Not that i hit the ball well enough to matter whether it's 157 or 157.8 yards. But i can do it.

13. I'm synaesthesiac...
I perceive some sounds/smells as colours, and similar other things. It's not uncommon for me to say "That smells pink," and mean it. Fortunately, I don't have the problem where I see letters/numbers as colours...phew...

That would get in the way of my 900wpm reading speed.

I'm also functional in three languages, which is unusual in North America, at least, and working on four through six or seven, depending on how you count. I have a good working knowledge of four character sets (Roman, hiragana, katakana, and Hebrew), and a few of a fifth (kanji). Better yet, I can read almost all of them forward, backward, and/or upside-down (I'm best at that -- natch -- with Roman letters.) (In fact, I didn't even notice "mirror imaging" until I was about 18, because I could read anything I saw in a mirror anyway, and could for as long as I can remember. Did I mention that I learned to read English at age 3 or less?)

25. Do you hear colors from particular pitches or key signatures?
Or is it the timbre of the sound that triggers the color variance?

I've heard other musicians speak of keys being specific colors, but never sensed anything other than the brightness or darkness of the key myself...

38. I don't know. I haven't analysed it that far.
I've never actually sat down and figured out which colours are what and why, if any. Hmm, maybe that could be why I have a general aversion to flat keys -- they must have differerent colours or something.

14. Well...
Natural abilities - I'm a lucid dreamer (in color - some people say you only dream in black and white, and I don't know if they're right about most people or not). I can stop a dream if I don't like how it's going and then back it up to where it started going wrong and go off in another direction. Comes in handy during sex dreams, and I think, "You know... one girl just isn't enough... Let's add a couple more."

Also - unless I'm just really tired or stayed up late the night before, I'll always wake up one minute before my alarm goes off so I guess I have an internal alarm clock off by one minute. My dad had the same ability. He never used an alarm clock, but if he said he was going to be up at 5 to go fishing, boy howdy, he was up.

As for abilities that I taught myself - magic, juggling, balloon twisting, walking on hands, unicycle riding... I'm a circus freak.

45. Music and languages
I can sing in both classical (church choir) and Eastern European folk style, both Balkan and Russian.

In addition to speaking foreign languages, I do accents: Minnesota, New York, Texas, English, Scottish, Scandinavian, German, French, Russian, Latvian, West African, Indian, Australian and of course, Japanese. For some reason, the Chinese and Korean accents, both of which are different from Japanese, elude me.

I've never mastered any impressions of famous people, though.

49. I can untangle just about any knot
This is actually a pretty useful talent.

It came in handy way back when I worked in a Catholic hospital. Patients kept falling asleep on their rosaries, and turning them into hopeless snarls.

The word was soon out: go get that weird Jewish nurse who thinks that God is a woman! She'll have it put right in no time!

All it takes is a little patience, and the ability to think in three dimensions.
