1. On the way home I was listening to "Isolation Drills" by Guided by Voices.
Right now, though, I'm listening to The Grateful Dead at Trooper's Hall in LA, 3-25-66. Great set.

After that, I'll probably put on some Souixante Etages.

77. Goodboy Columbus?
I just watched that movie this morning. Goodbye Columbus... Ali McGraw at about 20 ...sigh.

I used to live there for about 5 years myself, 83-89, the golden age of the Columbus music scene. Royal Crescent Mob, Scrawl, Great Plains, and the original Stache's.

13. my favorite band right now, bar none...
My overnight show did a RF marathon a month ago, playing all the CD's and the "Whisky, Painkillers, And Speed" live EP. Willy's a great guy, and other then Richard Buckner, the best songwriter alive IMO.

I've got "4 Hours Out" (my favorite song of theirs), "Safety", and "Northline" in tonight's rotation; I'm trying to spread the word as much as I can...

17. What a question!
If you like RF, I assume you like the whole alt-country thing; here's a few suggestions:

Old Reliable (from Edmonton, Alberta)

http://www.oldreliableband.com/temp/

Wil Oldham/Palace/Palace Songs/Bonnie Prince Billy

The Silos

Richard Buckner

Corb Lund Band (also from Edmonton; I live here now)

Alejandro Escovedo

That's just for starters; let me think on this...

PS; "Evergreen Powerline" by RF is playing right now in my show!

"Ohio River Boat Song", too; I've got that and "New Partner" in the roation of my show tonight..

32. I don't mind it, really
I like the Nashvill-ized "No more workhorse blues"

But "I send my love to you" would be perfectly unlistenable were it not for that "quack quack!" oddly placed in the middle of it

But I like what the session musicians did to "Gulf shores" and "Riding"

On the whole, it's really not a bad collection of songs at all

Have you heard SUPERWOLF yet?

53. The first song is pretty dope
Generally, it's a lot more lyrics-intensive, less repetitive than "Master & everyone" but I think I prefer the sparseness & resignation of the latter (or, more enthusiastically, "Get on jolly") to the...uh..."fluffiness" or insubstantiality of Superwolf.

60. Laura Carter
I just realized that we are talking about two different Laura Carters. There is a Laura Carter in Elf Power, but there was also another Laura Carter who lived in Athens, GA and was the singer for the BBQ Killers. She passed away a few years ago. See the following post on the Matador website after her death:

DEATH IS NOT NICE DEPT. :
The recent untimely deaths of Joe Strummer and Jam Master Jay have been noted far and wide and both musical visionaries have been justly hailed & eulogized in manners befitting their contributions. But contributions made on a scale not-quite-as-global aren't any less meaningful. So with that in mind, let's have a moment of consideration of 2 for the late Laura Carter, formerly of Athens, GA's Bar-b-q Killers and later on, Radial Recording artists Jackonuts. Carter, one of the most compelling live performers and inspirational characters I've had the privilege to know, passed away in December. Laura was the real deal in ways that her records didn't adequately showcase; it truly sucks that we don't have access to a time travel machine because a Jackonuts gig would really hit the spot right about now.

We saw them this summer in Lincoln Park, with the Waco Bros. Man, what a show. I saw them a long time ago when they were still a spin-off band, and they were good, but not great. This time, they just ruled. That was the kid's first exposure to arty type rock and she hasn't looked back.

Come let me love you, let me give my life to you,
let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms,
let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you.
Come let me love you, come love me again.

You fill up my senses like a night in the forest,

7. Thee Headcoatees - Ca Plane Pour Moi (3:10)
8. mccarthy - god made the virus (1:40)

By the 'Living Brass' on vinyl. 1968 RCA recording $1.57 or two for $3.00.

And! Oh boy! Those musicians are having fun.

97. If it is not on the radio
I'm listening to it.

It isn't that I just like esoteric stuff or want to be a snob about it. The bigtime has its megaphone two inches from my head most of the day where I work (the bluest collar). My coworkers have to stay plugged in to the current commerce or they'd think they were getting too weird, in need of therapy, or something. so I steal away when I can to listen to Doug Wamble, Joe Louis Walker, the Shins, the Donnas, Nat King Cole Trio, or Masters of Reality( the defunct group; I hate BS). I like soul music, so Anthony Hamilton is in my cd player, along with Curtis Salgado and James Carr. It's a shame what the Blues Brothers did to that genre--was that self mockery, or the racist side of irony? anyway their so-called revival embalmed the stuff, and it is only now beginning to recover from a bad case of the Retro's. So there is hope, I guess.
