How big a house would you like ?
I used to work in houses that were up to 50,000 square feet.
i couldn't do it, 3000 square feet would be a palace to me.
Do you want a huge place ?

1. I'd go for a massive palace myself. 50,000 sq feet sounds about right

that's assuming I had the funds (after buying it . . . yeah, right) to have it all nicely furnished and could afford an army of maids to keep it clean. I could use a 1,000 square foot kitchen. :)

4. 1100 sq. ft. is plenty for us to maintain.
Anything over 2000 sq. ft. would be unmanageable, without paid help, considering our work/school schedules.

2. No.
It just gets unmanageable. I would prefer something along the lines of 2500 square feet with lots of storage place and a big garage. I would much rather have my house sitting on a large piece of land than to invest all my money in a house on some 100 X 200 plot of land.

Here is my house and neighborhood. I sit on an acre with a 1650 square foot home. It's nice but we need more storage place.

5. A place your size sounds just about right for me
I live in an 851 sq. ft. condo, but it's still much bigger than my 755 sq ft apartment was, and has a nice small patio. What I'd really like is to have a larger guest room (mine is just big enough for a futon) and a guest bath. Also a dining room would be nice, that way I'd have more storage space in the kitchen. Not complaining though, with the price of real estate in my area, I'm lucky to have what I've got.

3. Even if I Were as Rich as the Sultan of Brunei
I wouldn't have a residence larger than 2,500 sq. ft. or so. Anything larger is just an ostentatious display of wealth...unless you've spawned a brood of 13 children. If I had a penchant for collecting expensive objets d'art, I would donate them to my favorite fine arts gallery, where they could get the care & maintenance they need - and could be seen & admired by the public. An exercise room filled with overpriced, underused equipment? Feh!

My only concession to conspicuous consumption might be a 'media room' in the basement for private movie screenings.

6. A big garage/shop/storage space would be perfect.
It would be nice to have enough land around it so i could play music REAL loud .My dumb dogs could bark thier heads off without bugging people too.
I bet most DUers don't want a gated community estate du-lame-o i would rather die than live in a gated community. The nice thing about them is that it keeps the riff raff in.

8. Only in AMERICA do the middle class homes have GARAGES larger than
MOST dwellings in other countries, AND plopped on the front like it's a badge of honor to waste all that real estate to park your car!!!!

7. Exactly. You can only be in one room at a time. Although I would

like a bedroom big enough for my bed, and a larger closet, so I could expand my shopping capacity! I think 2000' sf would be perfect for myself and my daughter.

A big kitchen is out of the question. I want everything within reach with seriously well organized storage.

I don't need STUFF, I need well organized, intimate spaces.

10. Mine's less than 900 Sq. Ft. -- I could use a *little* more space...
...like a couple of closets, a garage, and a living room big enough to throw a party without people sitting on the stairs.

But anything over 1500 sq. ft. would be wasted on just me. It irks me to see former farms converted to McMansions with 3000+ sq. ft with 2-3 people living in them...when they finally get home from their 2 hour commute, that is.

11. There are 2 of us in a 3500 sq ft house
Way too much space but we are remodeling it for resale (got it cheap), then we can downsize and have the cap gains for retirement (not that far away)

12. I wouldn't want anything more than 4000 sq ft
If I had a very large house it would really annoy the hell out of me having to pay the taxes on it knowing how inept my local govt is. If I felt the money would be spent wisely then that would be OK.
