This is the time of year I wish I had a guy and a fireplace
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 02:27 PM by supernova
*sigh*

I mostly don't mind being single. I'm comfortable with my own company. But this time of year when the days are short, the skies gray and close, and the wind whips right through me, I wish I had someone to keep me warm.

Oh well.

edit: I think also part of it is just this time of year. The emphasis is on "togetherness", "closeness" , "family time", It tends contrast with the fact that I'm none of those things right now.

effects even those who have a mate. I find it is very difficult to feel good when days are short unless I stay focused on spiritual practices.

39. The First Question One Gets Asked Socially Is
What do you do for a living? It is the proverbial sizing up that each female does of a new prospect.

I have been unemployed now for 54 months. I have learned that in the pecking order of society I do not exist socially or economically. If one does not exist socially and economically, one does not attract potential mates.

That is why I have given up.

15. Nice thing about New England is fireplaces.
They're almost everywhere. I get to finally go apartment hunting in another month or so and it's definitely something I'd like. As for the man, well that's always nice too. Hopefully, I'll have a bit of hooking up before the weather warms up again.

Should I look for the proverbial bearskin rug as well? :P

It's not ventilated so it's for decoration only...

but since you seemed to like it so much, here's another view.

Should we play some records to get in the mood? (I know I'm so retro...)

I think I might have a bottle of champaign lying around somewhere...

38. I'm an artist and a writer...
The mandolin is purely for decoration...I'm afraid i have no talent for music...

But I do paint and write, and I have a huge love for photography...

As for my etchings here's a portrait of my last Muse. She broke my heart earlier this summer. I hope she enjoyed the bloody ear i left in her mailbox.

But seriously, here's a detail of a more light-hearted painting I've always liked...

I'm thinking of using it as my avatar image...if I can figure out how...

42. Lovely paintings
You have a definite style, a little Gaugin-ish.

If you want to have that as an avatar, just use something like the Paint program or Paintshop pro to size it down to 48x48 (I think is the size for DU) then upload it in your personal profile.

I've only recently dabbled in paint. B & W acrylic so far.

Gauguin has been a huge influence of mine as has been Rubens... and thanks for the avatar advise...:yourock:

Here's the entire painting, (I don't have a very good picture right now. This was scanned for a newspaper article) it's huge, about 5 foots besides 15 foots...

Here's a somewhat clearer image while it was still only a work in progress...

Now can we get back too that talk of champaign and fireplaces...

26. Xmas is too expensive as it is.....
it's bad enough my credit cards are practically maxed out, I cannot afford a man this time of year. ;)

He'll want electronics or some manly gadget that is way over my budget. ;)

Right now I want peace and quiet, the laundry put away, the bathroom clean, and some petit fours to snack on. (I'm kind of hungry right now)

For warmth, I have my little babies. ;)

I already told you we're taking up a collection to have Johnny Depp kidnapped & shipped to you Fed-Ex.

Do you have any idea how many of us have been standing on the street corners of this rapidly disintegrating country in the freezing cold with our jingle bells & coffee cans... scraping every dime & nickel & penny up... scoffed by the passer-bys rushing home with their presents... just to get Johnny on your doorstep in time for Christmas!

You know how much black market fees are these days?? You have no idea how much the shipping is gonna cost me??

You ingrate!

I have the guy and the fireplace, wanna trade? :silly:

Seriously, the grass ain't always greener, any time of the year. The holidays can bum out even the most normal (?) people this time of year. Shorter days of light? Colder and gloomier? Maybe humans were meant to hibernate too !?! Of course, I think the pharmaceuticals and liquor industry tried to capitalize on this a long time ago, so now they give us reason to stay awake! Oy.

I know there's some wonderful discussions going on in the DU Group dedicated to Mental Health.

As for me, I go through the holiday motions for my family's sake, but what keeps me going is Florida in February and NYC in April. Works for me every year <wink>.
