2. Or two toes...
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 09:53 PM by Ladyhawk
The two-toed sloth is a bit more active than the three-toed sloth. It is also a bit more agressive.

The three-toed sloth lives most of its life in the trees and comes down only once a week to take a dump. It is also an ecosystem in and of itself. A type of algae grows in the sloth's fur that is known nowhere else in nature. A specific type of moth lives on the algae and lays its eggs in the sloth's fur, which, by the way, grows "backward" from most mammals. The growth pattern lays along a rump-to-head pattern.

Sloths are related to the two types of anteaters, also found in South America: the giant anteater and the tamandua.

How's that for "off the cuff"?

3. They come down from up in the cannopy just to go to the bathroom
During the rainy season they swim from tree to tree. They are surprisingly good swimmers.

5. Three-toed sloths are said to be sweet and lovable
Two-toed not so much so.

And then there were the giant sloths back in the old days. Scared the shit out of one of my kids when I took him to the Museum of Natural History when he was four.

7. They call me the sloth
SLOTH

They call me the sloth
Way down in the ghetto
Italian Spaghetti
Singing falsetto
Sleeping all day
Rip Van Winklin'
Spend my nights in bars
Glasses tinklin'

I'm so bad
He's so nasty
Ain't got no friends
Real outcasty
Stay out of my way
Or you'll end up a cripple
I'll take this piece of paper
And slice your nipple

They call me the sloth
Way down in the ghetto
Italian Spaghetti
Singing falsetto
Sleeping all day
Rip Van Winklin'
Spend my nights in bars
Glasses tinklin'

(Phish)
