edit: I just checked my correspondence and e-mails with the lady I adopted Althea from, and it definitely looks like it was early August :).

Second edit: It was on August 9, that she came to live with me :). I should have remembered that, being a deadhead, since that's the 9th anniversary of Jerry's death. (That's also the source of her name, it's a Dead song). :)

9. Funny story (as if anyone cares)

Abigail I got from adopting her from CARE (the animal welfare org that runs their shit out of PetSmart.) My g/f dragged me in there, and Abigail looked exactly like the cat I had when I was younger. I'm normally opposed to adopting kittens, since the older cats need it more and someone will adopt the kittens anyway, but I broke and adopted her.

Then, one day about a year later my neighbor comes to the door with a little black kitten in her arms. She asks if it's my cat, since she knows I have cats. It looks just like Abigail, so I freak out thinking that it's her, and say, "Yes! Let her in!" and let this black cat come bounding into my house.

Then I look up and see Abigail chilling out on the arm of the couch.

So I accidentally adopt Annabel. She's hungry and cold and skinny, so I decide to keep her.

Basically, they look so much alike, but are completely unrelated. In fact, the only reason Annabel got in my house was because I thought she was Abigail. Lucky her.

Now they live a life of constant feedings, lounging on the down comforter, and occasional chunk of turkey or chicken (which is more than I get, since I'm vegetarian).

My Chihuahua was so heart broken when her big sister died -- that I got her a cat -- a Japanese Bobtail. He walks on a leash and she will walk as far as he does. When he opts out of the walk -- she'll only take a short walk.

I traveled across country with this pair of friends.

These guys are our sanity. We all have to do whatever it takes to remain sane in an insane world.

Here's a page of photographs I just put up. My two kitties got a PanicMouse for Christmas. The PanicMouse people tell you to break them in on the toy by playing with the mouse toy by hand first, then attaching it to the PanicMouse base. So that's what the first photos are, then the actual PanicMouse.

These photos aren't great because I had to take the photo with my left hand and photograph with the right. But you can get the idea.

34. He had a very sad story but I hope you'll agree it has a happy ending...

He was found outside in the middle of a very cold winter, declawed, and emaciated, obviously rendered totally incapable of fending for himself. He was also neutered, but despite the financial investment someone had made and multiple ads placed by the county pound, no one claimed him. So someone obviously had dumped him. Just before he was set to be euthanized, a volunteer org. rescued him from "death row." He was fostered for a long time and slowly regained some weight. I had been looking for a long time for just the right long-haired cat who would be kind to my very old cat and a good playmate for my very young cat, who needed to be distracted from bugging the old one (both of whom also were abandoned) and this little sweetie was great for both. They accepted him within 2 days of his arrival and he put on 2 more pounds after joining us. Sadly my wonderful old cat passed away after a very long struggle with multiple ailments, but I know his last year of life was made much more peaceful and happy because of our lovable newcomer.

Those older cats need it the most (not necessarily "old", just post-kitten). And declawing a cat, I think, is fucking horrible. I'm glad (for him and you) that you were able to give him a home.

48. oh yes, every so often there are happy endings. My cat Bobo

who I brought in on a terribly cold day in Jan. '04 was a fixed stray. I saw him wandering around the back yards for a few months. I notified and forwarded his photo to about 20 animal control and rescue groups, and ran ads in multiple newspapers for about a month. Well since my cat Boy just died in Oct 2003 of cancer, I decided to keep Bobo. I was grieving terribly for Boy, my incredible wonderful cat who died so young (8) of cancer. Bobo gets along great with my other 3 cats. AAll my cats are strays ( all neutered when I found them). These cats are either dumped or terrribly lost.

I am so glad you got this cat. Give your cats "Scratch under chin" from me.
