My sons band just opened for Maynard Ferguson!
And I am not there. Mainly because I don't care for Maynard, heard him before. The band practices in my basement so I know their stuff but I am so excited and proud. Thought I wanted to share.

1. Ooohhh! How exciting!!
My son plays too...I really love the music. Theyre a cross between Toadies and Nirvana I think.

They havent opened for anyone famous, save Critickill..but I doubt many know them. Still, it was a big deal down here in Tx!

Congrats to them and to you!

2. Maynard Ferguson is one of the Gods.
His group says more in one song than most rock bands say in a Lifetime.

Your Son is a lucky dude!

3. I wondered if you were talking about the same . . .
. . . Maynard Ferguson. I though he must be eighty at least. I remember hearing about him in the '60s. Actually, he is only 75.

4. The one and only.
I saw him about 30 years ago. Evidently he is still going strong.

5. He Does have a very distinctive sound!!!
I heard him back in '78, I think, in Nashville. Got one of the worst headaches I've ever had. :) Makes me think of another favorites: Mangione. :)

6. I sat about
10 feet from him and I know what you mean about headaches! I have never seen anyone get so red in the face.

9. My drum corp opened for him in the early 70s

And we were doing things a lil different and we had a guitar (me) and a harmonica. The trombone section went out after with a few of us and they praised us. Highlight of my life!!!

I am so happy for your son, its a great thing.

11. That's great!
But I'm surprised Maynard hasn't retired yet...
Didn't he have several "final tours" in the 1980s?

Even if you don't like Maynard. You could have left before he went on. What kind of music does your son's band play?
