What's up with Kohl's
I visited a Kohl's clothing store yesterday for the 1st time. Seems like everything was "half off". Are they freaking out because of low sales or is this just their MO?

9. He used to be ... has nothing to do with them anymore
I worked there when I was "young" - his dad started the Kohl's Food Stores (once there were over 100 in SE Wisconsin & Northern IL) - it was Herb's idea to have a the department stores.

He sold them (food and department stores) years ago (I think around 1987 or so).

15. Kohl is a Democrat right?
My memory is foggy today, but I think he is a Democrat. So, I should shop there more often.

though he's kind of overshadowed because we have feingold out of WI too...he's an alright guy though, a bit of a moderate but he's been a good senator

2. Just their MO
they have a lot of sales, and I haven't had any problems with their stuff. It doesn't seem to be 2nds or rejects, all first line stuff.

3. They are supposedly having a dire holiday season
Apparel in general is doing poorly. Electronics and gifty type things are doing very well.

5. Frankly, the apparel this year is so damn boring...
that it's no wonder sales are down. I am talking about all stores...not just Kohl's.

11. Shhh! Don't tell Bush41 that!
That'll ruin his Christmas gift for Jenna & Babs.

They wanted fifths for Christmas anyway; the same thing they asked Santa to bring for the last 10 years . . .

4. I got an American made Kerry-esque "Barn jacket" at Mervyn's last week
for $19! Mervyn's is similar to Kohl's. Barn jackets usually cost about $120. Stores are definitely freaking out this year. Even though I'm dirt poor, I'm going to take advantage.

12. I like Mervyn's, i don't like Kohl's at all
their merchandise seems really cheaply made and they have the worst shoe department ever.

13. I like both Mervyn's and Kohl's
sometimes I do better at one than the other..it just varies.

And they are ALWAYS having 50% sales on something at KOHL's

I am a committed bargain shopper, and I find both stores have reasonably good quality and good prices.

6. That's usually how they are ...
... although I suspect this year they're even a bit more of a bargain than normal.

10. My nephew works there now

at Corporate HQ in Menomonee Falls

They have been opening stores in many regions of the country for years - one of the fastest growing stores.

And they have had these types of sales for years.

I caught another retailer (Penney's) adverstise 40-50% of brand name lamps and when I went, all were marked up about 25% from last month, so the 40-50% off is not really that full amount from the prices they were charging normally 2 months ago!

pretty often. My son works there part time. He's been there for about 5 months and they have been pretty nice and accommodating around his school schedule and studying to exams. They offer some health care even to part timers, eye and dental coverage. For a retail job it's OK. Way above Wal Mart and better than Target.
