I witnessed "turtle love" a short while ago..... |
|
I found a turtle and brought it over to the neighbor who already has one. Turns out his is a female...mine, with the redder eyes, is a male. I put my guy down....he found the female, they marched across the patio together, then...the male turned around and mounted the female!! I mean, he didn't waste any time!!
I never thought that would happen so fast...and so quickly! I guess I just don't know turtles!!!

and he used to have one named Grandpa. Grandpa would mount any turtle, regardless of species or sex. Rest in peace, Grandpa.

2. Male turtle shells are concave on the bottom... |
|
...so they'll fit on top of a female without falling off. It's kinda funny thinking about what it would be like with a convex lower shell...
I learned that a week ago at the interesting reptiles traveling exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Check it out if you're in the area.

5. Saw that happen at a zoo once |
|
Could hear them clear as a bell 100 yards away, parents were covering their children's eyes, turning them away. I almost peed myself laughing.

my farm just yesterday I had to stop and get out of my truck to move an amorous couple of Box Turtles! They were hooked up and the female took off as I drove up and the poor male was flailing on his back. I turned him rightside up and moved him close to the female and drove on. I hope they were able to reconnect.

10. I saw dogs screwing in a grocery store once. |
|
Not here, in Russia.
"Doggy style" is a misnomer, 'cuz they seemed to change positions several times.
I once had the pleasure of seeing turtles go at it in the zoo. I was doing one of those "big sister/little sister" things, and went with an inner-city girl. She kept asking what was going on.

in the winter we put a pine tree on the back deck, with lights. One day during Christmas vacation week, during the lunch shift, two stray cats were doing it (complete with yowling sound track) under the tree. The dining room was packed - and completely silent.
A waiter came into the kitchen, demanding we do something about the cats!! We told him it was a variation on dinner theater.

13. That happened with frogs we found that were on top of each other |
|
I was with my nephews who were only 4 and 6. We were at a pond and saw a whole bunch of frogs humping each other. I told them the one frog was sick and the other frog was carrying the sick frog on their back

If they had a picture of Rev Moon facing them, and cleaned them themselves with really stiff clothes afterwards they're moonie turtles.
