Paint Shop Pro question
O.K. any experts out there? I have a computer science background but I haven't done much with imaging software. I'm trying to edit the background of a .jpg with the eraser tool and whenever I apply it instead of erasing with the colors listed on the right under styles it prints a grey and white checkerboard. I have been all through the help and the configure tools menu and I can't find where this is set. WTF? All I really want to do is essentially drop the background or make it white.

1. That means the canvas is transparent. You need to set it to white
I haven't worked with PSP in a while, so I don't know exactly where the setting is.

3. After using the remove background tool
there will be a checkerboard where the image is transparent. Create a new image the same size or larger with a white background, copy the image with the removed background and paste it onto the new white image.

4. Thats the background layer, its invisible when you open the picture else
where, its there for a guide, if you make a new layer you can change the settings there for that if you would like to. Does that help? :)
