I'm sorry, but declaring "art" to be whatever you claim it is was an interesting idea 40 years ago. By now most modern art is merely a series of tired exercises in 'nonconforming' repetition. I get it. Irony. Postirony. Ironic postirony. Challenging my beliefs on fundamental principles. Challenging the idea of challenging. Challenging the idea of challenging the idea of challenging. Come on, now. You really no longer interest me, guys. You know what? Don't challenge me any more. It's not going to work. You want to challenge me? Give me a few physics problems or a set of calc proofs. Yeah, I'm a philistine. Show me something fundamentally beautiful--and don't try to challenge my ideas or concepts of beauty, because I've seen that a million times over. Show me something beautiful.
