Yet another odd query for the Lounge |
|
While the spirit of ninety percent of my threads is generally somber, even despairing, I feel it necessary, on occasion, to post something like "Do you think--somewhere in the world--there's a sword-fight ensuing?"
Well, something's been bothering me all week.
Sad to say, a young man in my community was killed in a car accident. Upon reading a quote by the boy's mother, however, I got to thinking that, at some point in the future (2005? 2025?), she's going to be clearing out his room. Suffice to say, she's going to find some pornography. My question is: When she comes across this material (Playboy? Hustler?), will her first reaction be to mourn said son in his full humanity, or will she be repulsed by the auto-erotic connotations? Which reaction, do you feel, would be more prevalent in this country?
As George Carlin would say: "These are the kind of thoughts that kept me out of the really good schools."

3. if the mom grew up with brothers, she won't blink an eye.... |
|
if she's from an uptight all girl family, she could well be repulsed! i have a few friends who grew up apart from boys, and they have no clue that mosy guys have a stash, and they all lie to girls about it. i grew up with brothers, so i just accept it as normal.

Think, that rascal. Then think of the grandbabies she won't have. Then cry.
I never ever want to lose a child.

6. I faced something similar |
|
After my father died, while cleaning up his personal effects, I found his stash of porn.
Revulsion? Not at all. I felt a bit funny, but mostly like I had violated his privacy. And I also don't think most people would react too harshly to finding a loved one's porn, either.
I do not take personal pride in cynicism. People are not nearly so bad as many of us DUers seem to think. That's one vice we share with the Freepers, much to our dishonor. It is probably a fault common to political junkies of all stripes.
