Unfortunately most X-tians don't know what Saturnalia is, and think I am talking about a NASA space probe

And where I used to say, "Happy New Year" I now make a point of saying, "Happy Holidays!" just to get some Xian worked up into a Jesus-based rage.

13. Yes - but it actually should not annoy them |
|
The early X-ians (pre-Charlemagne) used the greek 'X' or 'chi' as a symbol for christ to avoid persecution (much like the fish).
I have a very negative childhood story about 'X-mas'. I brought home a X-mas card that we made for my parents in school (about first grade)that said "Merry X-mas". My father took one look at it and blew up, ranting about sacrilege and such. I was crushed.

15. what a childish thing to do...as a christian I don't tell atheist |
|
things just to annoy them..such as God Bless You or I will pray for you...but if you get a kick out of showing disrespect that is your right....
I guess it is just about different levels of maturity and being secure enough in your beliefs not to need to belittle those of others...

I might use it so I don't have to type as much. I don't freak out over other people's beliefs really. Even if they are yappin about it to me, I just let them go on. I have other things that I waste my time on.

Hope you're proud of yourself.
I live in a red state, know plenty of those evil, bigoted, racist, homophobic Christians and none seem to mind X-Mas being used.

21. why would it annoy a real Xtian? |
|
The "X" is in honor of the Christians martyred for their faith in Roman times and who had to use secret signs like the X and the fish to stand for in writing out the name of Christ.
If someone is offended by the "X," I know right away that they have not attended to their Sunday School class or their church history and that they are a fake, probably a fundie who converted for convenience or social reasons in adulthood or something of that stripe, not a person with a legitimate Christian background who knows the story of their faith.
People who object to the X are just stamping themselves as ignorant.

24. on top of which, some martyr was crucified on an X shaped |
|
cross.
X = Chi (greek letter) =first part of Christ.
silly people got no idea why the X is there in the first place, get all mad about it, just another example of too much energy and not enough brains. Too much time on their hands.
I won't go out of my way to annoy, but if somebody brings it up, I do what I can to ed yoo kate them.

22. I'm a Christian and I don't find the term offensive, however, |
|
your motivation for using the term is very childish. Why purposefully and intentionally offend and annoy people? Life's too short for such behavior, in my opinion.
I've written the word "x-mas" in emails and such as a time-saver, but if I knew it would offend someone, I certainly wouldn't do it just to get a reaction. To what purpose? To show I can be an ass too?
