2. have you seen the resurgence of Nascar? |
|
i would like to disagree :silly: (no offense to any Nascar fans, but they do cater to the "rural demographic" moreso than the "urban elite)...

I've got to say, though I know this is a copycat and silly, I do get kind of sick of seeing these broad generalizations on a progressive message board. I grew up in Vermont, which is not, as some would think, a rich elitist state. It's a poor and rural state and most of the people who have been there for generations would be considered "hicks" - and often are by the urban folks who buy houses there.
I've known some very good people over the years, and some darn good liberals, who lived in run down circumstances and had an old washing machine and a junk car out in front of their place. That's because, when you're poor, you don't throw away anything that might possibly be salvaged.
I've known a lot of people who'd be called hicks by some of you who would give the shirt off their back to someone in need. You know, if people are serious about reclaiming the word "liberal", perhaps they should stop demeaning and insulting people who may share their views but not their financial circumstances. Want people to stop thinking liberals are "elitist"? Then stop making fun of "hicks" and "trailer trash" and all the other derogatory terms I read around here.
Not everyone who lives in a trailer is a Repug. Maybe not even the majority. Not everyone who hunts, drives a pickup truck, wears a John Deere cap or likes country music is a freeper.
End of rant. Happy fucking holidays.

9. knew that was coming, so i'll try and make this concise |
|
i would consider myself a "hick". grew up in "the sticks" in western new york. although i lived in a town, we literally had 2 cars (one was a truck, actually) on blocks in my yard. went swimming down in "the gorge", drank busch light beer (still do on many occassions), "going camping" was what we did on the weekends, and we listened to hick music. this thread is only meant as a stupid copycat, and nothing more. here, have a busch light on me; just don't knock your tooth out on it  :toast:

10. Thanks. I really needed that drink. |
|
I know it was a copycat and I know it wasn't meant to be nasty - I guess it's because this place is really weird today. Strange mood and I do sometimes get annoyed at how supposedly enlightened, big tent people can be so callous toward others. Was not meant personally.
From one hick to another - :toast:
