Dolly Parton Eats It!
She says, "I've eaten just about anything you'd care to name."

"Including fried squirrel with gravy. It sounds disgusting, but squirrel is a very tender and sweet meat. I'd definitely recommend it."

Bon apetit, y'all!

1. You had to post that at lunch time!

2. I've tried squirrel
and I found it neither tender nor appetising. (BTW, this is not just a Southern dish; when I ate it I was living in central Illinois)

3. I'm pretty sure I had squirrel and rabbit as a kid....

I (thankfully) don't remember, but my Dad did hunt and did not always "bag" a deer or a pheasant!

I really don't think this is too uncommon in areas where people hunt..

Oh, and I was living in Missouri at the time, just outside Kansas City.

4. Ya know, dbt, every time I see your name I think

7. How many squirrel would you have to go through
to make a decent meal?

Seems like it wouldn't be worth all the trouble.

You get a pound of meat off each one, more-or-less.

15. Oh, and...
Be careful you get all the bird shot out of the carcass before you cook it;

It messes with the flavor of the meat, and you can break a tooth on it.

11. Great care must be taken with the gravy.
When prepared properly, it has a delicate, nut-like flavor. Acorn squash also makes a delightful accompaniment.

12. Gopher, Everett?

No, thank you Delmar - a third of a gopher would only rouse my appetite without beddin' her back down.

14. I've had squirrel
back when I was younger my g/f's father was from southern Ohio and grew up hunting. He took me a few times and the first time I went I got a squirrel. I also got groundhog and deer and ate both. I haven't hunted in years though.
