Jilted bride sues runaway groom for calling off wedding via text messaging
A jilted Malaysian bride is suing her groom for damages after he called off their wedding with a mobile phone text message, according to media reports.

Norlida Abdul Rahman, 23, was left waiting on her wedding day after Hasmawi Hassan, a professional football player, sent her an SMS less than 24 hours before the ceremony saying: "We were not meant to be together."

But Norlida decided to put on a brave face - and her wedding dress - and carried on with the traditional Malay wedding feast for 1,000 guests at her family home, although her fiance did not turn up.

Her family spent close to $US5,263 on the wedding, she said.

"I have already instructed my lawyer to take the necessary legal action," Norlida was quoted as saying by the Star.

1. 5 grand for a wedding with 1000 guests?
Just shows that you can still find a bargain in this world.
