Someone please solve the mystery:

In the latest portrait of UK Queen Elizabeth, she is once again shown as having BLUE eyes. See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/arts/3141696.stm

Personally, I don't mind, but in all her earlier pics circa 1940s/1950s she always has BROWN eyes. Now, I'm wondering, is this part of the royal mystique that her eyes change from brown to blue - you know, like the Judy Garland film the Wizard of Oz when half way the pic changes from b/w to colour? Or is it a new official colour theme since her dad died?

At first I wondered if if was just a makeover, to co incide with Dumbo's state visit in November, but when I checked over all the published portraits, she's definitely gone blue - either that, or those royal protrait painters before 1953 had some very dodgy oils to work with...

1. Her eyes are blue and always have been.

Not sure what portraits you've seen that show brown eyes. Or maybe you've just seen poor quality color photos of the portraits. But she has blue eyes, as did both her parents, as does her husband, as do all of her children.

2. All the original oils and watercolours pre 1953 coronation

as well as all the original colour photos pre 53. Her kids don't have blue eyes.

4. Her kids do too have blue eyes.

I've got books here at home that have childhood photos of her and they clearly show blue eyes.
