Woo hoo!! I have FISH!
Edited on Wed Dec-22-04 09:00 PM by Rabrrrrrr
Bought three black tetras tonight, and put them in the new tank. One was a bit stressed for a while, and just sat on the gravel in the back for 5-10 minutes, making me kinda worried, but then he/she caem back to life and has been fine ever since.

The threesome has been enjoying the hell out of the tank, swimming back and forth the 6 feet of it, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...

And I'm having a blast watching them!

Tomorrow I'll drop a pheasant in there to keep the fishes fed, and I should be set.

1. Excellent!
What color gravel did you end up going with?

2. I chose "GOPisEvil Mange" as the color!
It's excellent!!

No, seriously, I went with a mix of three different natural color brownish stones. I decided against color. I figured, this is something that fish have to live in. It's not an abstract painting.

:-)

9. Good choice on the gravel
I had blue and white for a couple of years before I went the natural route. It looks much nicer.

6. Kewl!!
Please keep us posted with your experiences! You're a great descriptive writer for one thing, and aquaria is also a cool subject. But you have great panache in your writing style.

Fish are fun, definitely. I envy you because you're putting in the fish I'd rather have. (tetras are an awesome schooling fish...) The water ph and hardness in my area go off the scale, literally. I refuse to spend tons of money on what amounts to a few drops of chemicals that will alter the water and probably kill the fish in the process, so I limit myself to African Cichlids. Some species are very colorful, but they can get VERY territorial, dig up the gravel for fun, and are aggressive. On the plus side, they will form lifelong monogamous bonds and raise their children to a certain age before becoming territorial against them.

10. We had a nice tank when we were first married
I think the coolest fish we had was a ghost knife. I loved watchin that. But when we moved, we lost them all. I was bummed. We haven't set it up again.

11. I love aquariums--they are the best therapy there is
watching them is so calming. It's an addictive hobby--I got so carried away I had 4 tanks going at once--but it is worth the health benefits!
