I bought an iPod. Was I scammed?
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 07:56 AM by nine23
I bought an iPod about a year and a half ago. No problems; it does what it does, I'm basically happy with it. I bought it simply because I had about 40 GIGS of music on file at the time; I use a fat G4 both professionally and at home (I'm a film editor), I'm familiar with the OS, and basically went to my neighbourhood Apple store and handed over le plastique to purchase one.

Now, the iPod is "the new Furbie", or whatever the fuck they're calling "this year's consumer trend".

Was I scammed? Are there other players out there that leave an iPod in the dust? Did I just jump on a bandwagon?

SERIOUS QUESTION: Are there other models out there that are a better value (tech or otherwise) that DUers would recommend? Feel free to insult me. I think I'm wearing a "Furbie" on the train to work, so I probably deserve it.

edit: I could probably research this myself, but I'm curious about other people's opinions. Plus, I don't give a shit - it's just another consumer item I've "collected"...

2. Nothing wrong with an iPod at all.
Some of the early models had problems with their batteries, but those have been resolved.

There are a few players out there I like just as much (check out some of the ones that Creative makes for instance), but the iPods are great IMO.

4. "Santa" is buyiing 3 Ipods for us
today. We already have one. "Santa" says its the best from an interface and performance standpoint. And still has the most number of accessories available: speakers, car kits, etc. And it's Apple.
Santa is a former Adobe employee and we are a MAC only family.

6. That's funny, stanwyck...
Does "Santa", being a former employee of Adobe, realize they're pulling away from supporting the Mac OS RE: the entire Adobe product line?

As a media pro who uses the Mac OS exclusively, THIS IS HUGE NEWS, but I HAVE MY FURBIE for my commute.

10. You're right on
Adobe and the digital/video...but I doubt they'll ever abandon Photoshop.

7. Nope
The reason the iPod is so popular is that it really is the best on the market at the moment.

11. Sony came out with what it called an 'iPod killer' but it sucked
so apple execs laughed their asses off, and life went on. It still is bar none the best portable music player ever.
