I just put in a twenty hour day at work due to the blizzard of '04
We got 13 inches of snow yesterday and today here in my little corner of Ohio, which is bad news if you're a truck driver. I had to do a Dayton to Cleveland and back turn; about a 400 hundred mile round trip. I started out at 3:30pm yesterday and got home at 11:30am today. It took me 16 hours to do the trip and then when I finally got back to the yard I was greeted with a truck that got stuck pulling in the gate. I had to wait another 4 hours for the tow truck to arrive and pull out the truck so I could get in.

The roads were snow covered the whole way and I was doing good to be going 35 mph. The plows were doing their best, but they just couldn't keep up. There were jack-knifed semis and cars in ditches all over the place. I've driven all over the country and this was one of my worse days as a trucker. I've seen this kind of snow out west, but it is rare for Ohio. I guess I've got something to tell my grandkids about if I ever manage to get married and have some children.

2. I think that's a good idea
I've been laying off the booze, but I've got 4 beers in the frige that have been there for a while. I think I'll crack open a couple.

3. Sorry to hear that, Droopy ...
I'm over in Indy and I can TOTALLY sympathize ...

Just driving 30 miles to and from the airport last night to pick up HippieKid was terrifying.

Crack open that beer and have yourself a Merry Holiday !!

:hippie:

4. Thank you, hippiechick
I may have to brave the conditions again for a mile or two to get something to eat. No food in the house except mom's christmas cookies. You can bet I'm going to be having that beer after I get back, though.

And a Merry Holiday to you, too.

The good news is that I don't have to go back to work for the rest of the year. But it sure was a crappy beginning to my time off.

5. glad you're home safe and sound
and didn't join anyone in the ditch.

Would you believe over here in Zanesville we didn't get any snow at all and just some ice overnight which didn't even start until after midnight? I head Columbus got a foot of snow and they're only 50 miles away.

6. Wow that's weird
I can tell you for certain that Columbus got that foot of snow. It was along my route.

I guess the storm was just all blustered out by the time it got to you guys. It even clobbered Cleveland pretty good and that's farther west than Columbus, albeit to the north.
