In honour of Santa - Lies Our Parents Told US |
|
Do tell.
My mother always told me that the sleep I got before midnight counted twice as much as the sleep I got after midnight. I think it was a ploy to get me into bed. I hated going to bed.

7. If we made faces we were told that it would stick like that or |
|
our children would come out looking like the face. I made an awful lot of faces as a child (Still do) maybe that is why I have no children.

4. My mom told me that eating too much spaghetti.... |
|
would give me "tomato spots." I'm assuming they would itch, or just be very uncomfortable. I used to love Spaghetti so much that it was the only way she could get me to eat anything else for dinner. In retrospect, I can't believe I fell for it. Of course, now I eat Spaghetti almost every night! Hah!

5. I'm still not sure if it's a lie - I don't dare try it |
|
I posted this in the "belly button" thread. My mom told me that if I didn't leave my belly button alone, I would untie it and my skin would fall off.
Gee, I wonder why I have psychological issues? :silly:

I think it was an excuse to confiscate my flashlight after lights out!

12. My mom told me I was allergic to chocolate and if I ate it I would |
|
get huge ugly welts on my face. When I first got zits I thought she would ground me for eating chocolate when I hadn't.
I still don't eat chocolate unless there's sex involved.

when my wife was pregnant my mother-in-law saw her reaching for something on a high shelf with her hands well over her head.
Mother-in-law had a five-alarm shitfit because everybody knew that reaching like that would result in the umbilical cord being wrapped around the baby's neck.
Well, danged if my daughter's umbilical wasn't wrapped around her neck TWICE which caused some anxious moments during delivery.
Mother-in-law has said "I told you so" for eight years.

My dad has pins in his legs from a really bad car accident when he was young. He has all these little divets in his legs from them. When I was young, he told me that he got them 'Fighting Indians.'

20. cracking your knucles will make them big, ugly and give you |
|
arthritis.
Idle hands spend time at the genitals (actually, my hands are very busy when they're...).
Shaving it will only make it grow back thicker and darker.
Going out in the cold without a jacket will get you sick.
