Sex changes and bathrooms. |
|
I used to work at a place where one of the male employees had a sex change operation and there was a huge battle as to where he/she should go to the bathroom.
The women, who knew him as a man, didn't want him in "their" restroom and he couldn't go into the men's room anymore as he was dressed in women's clothes, wore makeup, etc.
Managing to avoid a decision, the employer opted to make a separate bathroom in the basement for him but it was very far from his cubicle like 15 floors away.
I think he should have been allowed to go to the women's restroom. There were plenty enough strange women in there to begin with so one more wouldn't make much difference.

4. Transitioning in the workplace usually means transitioning workplaces |
|
Regardless of legal name and gender changes, amended birth certificates, etc. Being completely stealthy is hard to near impossible for MtF who transition after secondary sex characteristics form.
Being gender ambiguous is as close as many come, but that ambiguity is no mystery to coworkers who knew the TGirl when she had a male identity.

5. Same thing happened at our place of work. |

New unisex bathroom. Problem solved.
What your post omits is that typically a TS person has to live as the destination gender for a year or so before the surgery is done. I wouldn't have a prob with it but I can see where some women might.

Whatever body parts he/she has, then that's which bathroom they should use.

I used to work somewhere that the same situation existed. I was no longer with the company at the time. The person in question had to use the hotel next door.
And I agree with you that he should have been allowed to use the women's bathrooms. I occasionally saw this individual on Michigan Avenue after the operation and always greeted her. She seemed happy about that, I suppose some people refused to do that.
