Poll question: Do You Carry a Swiss Army/Pocket Knife?
I always used to. But then came high school and all the "Columbine" fears, and the stupid rules about no sharp things in school. But now that I'm in college, and it's totally different, I think I want to start carrying one again. Just in case. The city can be rough and I'm not tough.

2. I've got a swiss card, it's credit card sized and thin enough for my wallet
I've actually gotten it on quite a few planes because I keep forgetting about it. It's not like the tiny knife or scissors in there could do any damage though. I think the tooth pick could be lethal, however.

8. I love the photo of Junior Bush giving the seig heil salute.
Isabella Rosselini, on the Daily Show, said that Bush got in trouble giving his "W" sign in Italy, there it means cuckold.:freak:

5. I carry a knife in my purse-- which is probably useless
unless I want to open a package or cut some string or use it as a screwdriver or whatever--because in my purse, it isn't exactly doing me a whole lotta good if something *goes down*. Little knife, big purse.(Gee Mr Mugger, I can't seem to find my knife, but here's my wallet--could you hold it a sec?) Once, my dad got me a pepper spray thingie which I used for a key chain for eight or nine years--I never used it for anything but a keychain, though. It was well past the experation, which I guess means it wouldn't even season a taco by the time I got rid of it. Made a good keychain though--nice and big so I could always find my keys. All my cool knives are on my shelves being wicked and decorative.

7. No, but I used to carry a Swiss Champion.
I now carry a liner-lock folder and it comes in handy when cutting off that super-tight CD and DVD shrink-wrap.

9. No.
You'd do better to get yourself some pepperspray or mace if you're against carrying a handgun for protection. A pocket knife isn't going to ward anyone off and may end up getting you stabbed if you don't know how to use it.

I was just saying that depending on a swiss army knife for defense is not a very good idea.

the plastic is off one end, unfortunately, and the toothpick is wedged out of reach. I don't know if I like the tweezers or the scissors the best of all!

13. Used to keep a Victorinox SAK in my car all the time
I've misplaced it somewhere, but it came in very handy lots of times. I gotta dig it out again - it's one of those $50 jobbers.

I have a Leatherman, too, but I prefer Swiss Army by a long shot.

16. 5 1/2 inch Schrade lock blade with a half serrated edge
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 07:08 PM by htuttle
Cuts open boxes and packing tape like nothing. Guaranteed for life, too.

I think that every auto mechanic I've ever known owned a Schrade, and they know good tools.

on edit:

Oh NO! I just found out while googling that Schrade closed it's doors this summer! Damn. They'd been around for 100 years. I'm going to have to find a new brand of knife next time. Damn.

:(

No, but I've got a Glock.

As far as knives, my Spyderco is less versatile, but more aggressive.

27. Got the "Soldier" model on my belt right now!
That's the kind with the aluminum "waffle" sides rather than red plastic. One cutting blade, can opener/small screwdriver, bottle opener/large screwdriver, and an awl that I usually use as a toothpick. strictly a utilitarian, no-frills model, and a great tool.

This, BTW, is the actual knife that's issued to soldiers in the Swiss army!

I use it at least once a day, often more frequently. It's great for cutting open those bulletproof plastic packages that small electronics come in.

I use a Japanese water stone to sharpen the main blade, and it's like a razor. It wouldn't make much of a weapon, but you'd be amazed how often you need one of these things!

:hi:

Too bad you can't take it WITH you anymore...not on airplanes, anyway.

35. Knives are very useful tools...
... I always carry a strange little Italian-made knife that my ex grandmother-in-law gave me.

It's tiny, made of brass with a stainless steel 1.5" blade. You laugh, but it is amazing what you can do with that little knife.

I also have a Schrade pocket-knife that I carry on occasion. And I have 3 high-tech folding knives (various sizes) with 440/420 stainless blades that are super sharp are very useful for any cutting job.

But, I would have to say that I carry these knives as tools, I don't really think of them as weapons. But the three high-tech knives I mentioned would certainly suffice as weaponry in a pinch.

I have a Victorinox Swiss multi-tool I used every day at CIGNA on imaging machines. It has a racheted screw driver, knife blade, flat head screwdriver, awl, and something else. It also makes a great gunsmithing tool and site adjustment.
