Tell us 3 things DU doesn't know about you.
  • I have a U.S. quarter-sized birthmark, about the colour of a cup of coffee with two creams, on my right hip.

  • In college, a newspaper reviewer once said of my vocal performance that I had "the voice of an angel on speed." To this day I'm trying to figure out if that's a good thing.

  • I live happily for years without a television. Then I lived happily for years without cable. As of yesterday, I have cable.

1. 3 things
1) I have a cat named Mouse
2) My Mini Cooper is named Simon and has a Union Jack on the roof
3) I share my birthday with Bill Clinton (and we're both left-handed).

Was that more than three? :)

36. That's great also.
Mouse looked like a mouse when he was small: pointed face, big ears, gray head. He also lost his tail when he was hit by a car. I think it just makes it easier for him to lick his butt. :)

2. Here are a few
- I was once considered "preppy" (cheerleader, college sorority, etc.)

- I, too, have lived for years without cable... in my most recent move it took a couple of months to get "cable" - but I didn't get tv cable - first I got dsl for a computer. Months later I got regular tv cable.

-didn't own a cd player until '99 (completely trashing my once "preppy" mantle).

1) I am ordained to the priesthood in my church
2) I cut my own hair today. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself.
3) I am extremely afraid of heights. Just standing on a step ladder or chair gets me all scared. But I love to fly and it doesn't bother me at all.

Everyone "worthy" male in the Mormon church is ordained to the priesthood. My title is Elder, the same as the missionaries roaming around the country.

You know around here, we got a sizable mormon community. Our neighbors are mormons, the parents are kind of jerks but the kid closest in age to me whose like in his 20's now was cool to me, and one of the kids lives with his folks there with his wife and they have a couple of kids, the little girl is sort of my three year old brother's girlfriend, they're
cute together heh. My dad put american flags in the shape of a peace symbol by the local church right before the election.

But the way out of it for me was real acheivement. Do something you don't think you can do. For me, I took up boxing and was able to do it reasonably well. Or go camping by yourself for a week in a wilderness area. Do something hard and it will give you confidence.

Oh, half of the self confidence thing is talking yourself into it.

70. Mainly pop, rock, and definitely R&B.
I like old R&B stuff a lot, but there's not much a find in the contemporary R&B genre I'm fond of. With a few exceptions (I really like Sarah McLachlan for instance) most modern pop/rock artists don't do it for me especially edgier ones. I'll always have a little soft spot for certain 80's music I listened to in my youth (The Smiths, older REM). I like jazz, but I've never gotten too into it (but I should as my daughter is becoming quite a sax player) which is weird because I do like R&B which is, in part, rooted in jazz. I suppose when I listen to music that's primarily instrumental, I tend to like classical pieces by artists like Liszt or Debussy. Something like Wagner, for instance, I can appreciate, but isn't my cup of tea.

I'm eclectic, but I tend to like music that in some way brings me thought or peace rather than anxiety or tension, even a small levels.

it's so hard for me to remember what I've already posted vs what I haven't ever mentioned.

I'll toss off these:

I've never had an affair with a married woman, though I've been both tempted and offered the opportunity.

I've only ever owned one tv in my life, it died about 10-11 years ago, and I didn't bother to replace it.

I never wear a watch, but sometimes I do carry a pocketwatch.

dunno
I don't think it has a significant impact either way. But probably 90% of the time, I can generally guess what time it is within about 5 minutes. I think part of that is I swam competetively as a kid, which is very time cognizant (is that a real phrase?) and also my "career" has always been linked to time. I work in data processing, and have always needed to be aware of how long certain things take, in order to meet deadlines, or estimate how much past a deadline we will be.

So I sort of developed a good inner sense of time. The only place I'm bad at time is driving from A to B - I almost always arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule, partly because I factor in time for delays, but mostly because I hate being late, and am for whatever reason a bad judge of how long it takes to drive from A to B.

1 - The first three cars I owned ('58 Hillman, '61 Peugeot, and '56 VW) all had manual chokes.

2 - I played the male lead in my 3rd grade class's production of "Hansel & Gretel".

3 - The Princess and I just bought a DVD player last weekend.

And here are three from The Princess:

1 - I spent most of my twenties in local bars in New Jersey - drunk and listening to cover bands.

2 - I went to high school with Matt Pinfield, who was an MTV jock and now does PR for record companies.

3 - I knew Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora before they was famous.

47. 3 random things about me:
I have always felt like I had a sixth sense – and once my father tested it out when I was a little girl by telling my mother to think of or hold something, and then asking me what it was. I got it right every time.

I love the smell of a salty beach, fresh rainfall, Tropic Tan suntan lotion, and a newborn's head.

I love to eat weird combos of foods together, like pancakes with tomato juice, apple pie and cheddar cheese, salsa on my muffins, chips dipped in baked beans, pizza dipped in salad dressing, fries in shakes, banana dipped in pb or pudding … I think you get the hint, but I could go on and on.

what is fanfic? Is it being a fan (of in your case Highlander) and picking up where that story ended and extending beyond that, and/or filling in holes in the story. I know in Highlander, the story spanned centuries, but there is a lot of time not covered or barely touched on, so would you be writing about adeventures that were omitted from the film? Sounds pretty cool, if that's what fanfic is.

145. You've pretty much got the idea.
Fanfic is fiction by fans concerning movies or t.v., and usually it covers ground that wan't really fleshed out "on air". the Star Trek fandom is probably one of the more famous for fanfic, but there are people writing stories about Xena, X-Files and tons more. I like reading it because of all the "what if" potential--like "What if Connor MacLeod was in WWII?"

I returned to Los Angeles just in time for the gubernatorial recall. News-breaking Turmoil pretty much follows me wherever I go.

2. 3 years ago I walked across the lawn and up to the doors of Graceland (like the song) because I didn't know that you had to buy a ticket. The guard was, luckily, very nice about it.

3. I once had a boyfriend break-up with me at a wedding. At which I was a bridesmaid. In the car between the wedding and the reception. That is generally the break-up story to beat everyone's break-up story, including my friend's, whose boyfriend broke up with her on IM.

104. Number 1, 2 and 3.
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 01:06 AM by NNadir
1) I have written 300 pages of a work of fiction. I started by writing the ending. The ending and beginning finally are more or less what I wanted, but I have real problems with the middle. Sometimes I abandon for years, but always seem to end up writing more eventually. I will die before I finish it.

2) I knew in the first ten minutes of conversation with my wife that I would marry her someday, even though it would have seemed completely absurd to her if I'd said anything about it then and there. (It took me years to get her even to go out with me.) It seems odd that one could love someone more than I love her right now, but I shall certainly love her even more tomorrow.

3) Though I love my boys enormously, sometimes I secretly feel guilty for having them, because I fear the world I am giving them.

107. 3 Things About Me
1. During a protest riot I helped turn over a police car.

2. I was in the Army a really long time ago.

3. I am very thankful that I talked my middle son out of joining the Air Force in 2002. He's now in college majoring in art bringing the world culture and beauty. Guess where he would probably be right now if I had not have convinced him to stay away from the military. I kept telling him not to do it because I had a gut feeling that war was inevitable. I was right. Thank God for mother's intuition.

1. I'm actually rather formal. I don't do "casual" well, and I could never be a sycophantic salesman, like a car salesman. I'd rather wear a suit than sweatpants (in fact, I WON'T wear sweatpants, even for a workout); I'd rather bow than shake hands or hug; I won't wear polyester.

2. I once introduced myself to Senator Akaka of Hawaii, giving him my name, and he said, "I know".

3. It was Senator Akaka's brother, the beloved and wondrous Abraham Akaka, who gave me the rank of kama'aina when he said "You are Kama'aina"

2) When I was in high school, I created a 6x10 foot wall map (a mosaic of smaller, computer-generated maps) of the entire city and metro area of London. Every single city street is included.

3) I always sleep with the lights on. I always have throughout my entire life. I'm not afraid of the dark or anything, but it just became something I got used to.

but since I have done this before, coming up with three more things DU doesn't know about me has taken some thought.

1) I was once a member of a "notable" race car driver's pit crew (before he went pro).

2) I too, have a birthmark, two actually. The inside of my right thigh and the other on the underside of my left arm. Both sound similar to yours, SOteric- in color and size.

3) I have never plucked my eyebrows and have no plans to do so.

I'll add a fourth because of the birthmark copying

4) My intuitive abilities are quite strong and I have been known to predict events (immediate or present events, i cannot predict the future nor do I claim to be able to do so.)

edited for clarity

When I was 8, one of my sisters lost a sewing needle in our living room carpet. While I was was crawling around, my knee found it. It went all the way in and hurt like hell. My parents took me to the doctor and he decided that he'd be able to get it out - without anesthesia. They strapped me down and had the nurse sit on top of me. In between my screams, I could feel the doc digging around and lifting up my kneecap, trying to get the needle out. He wasn't successful. Finally, they got me to a hospital to get it out in a more civilized setting.

I have relatives in Germany, who are still alive, who were members of the SS and Nazi party. The reason kindly old Uncle Max has never visited us here in America is that the US gov't won't let him in the country.

I'm a wine snob. I worked for 7 years in a liquor store selling the stuff, and developed a taste for the finer varieties.
The only problem is my palette has more expensive taste than my wallet can afford.

Oh, and I have a red birthmark on my left forearm, about a half inch across and shaped like West Virginia - only backwards.
