If you get a moment, could you pray for my dad?
My father was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, on his 84th birthday, complaining of severe abdominal pain. When his blood pressure started dropping, they brought him into surgery, expecting acute diverticulitis. Instead they found a strange condition that he has had ever since an appendectomy performed when he was in his 20s. Over my lifetime at least, he's struggled with numerous chronic, non-lethal but mysterious problems that may have been caused by this condition. He appears to be recovering OK though he has a low-grade fever. They say he'll be out of the woods in the next few days as long as he doesn't catch pneumonia or suffer a heart attack.

My dad is a second-generation Italian-American, a World War II veteran, an FDR Democrat, an old-guard '60s liberal, and a prolific LTTE writer since his retirement. This past election took a toll on him, as it has on us all, and I wonder if the stress may have exacerbated the condition to the point that his life was in danger from it after 60 years of tolerating it.

This will be my family's first Christmas ever without dad at home and it will be strange. It makes me think of all the families who have loved ones overseas this Christmas, or in hospitals or have lost them forever due to this government's recklessness. Those are the folks my dad has been most concerned about over the past four years. So if you get a moment, could you say a prayer for them too?

He was sitting up and managing his finances by phone. The doctors say he is doing remarkably well.

Thank you for asking for prayers for those with loved ones overseas. I have a friend who is in Mosul right now. We still haven't heard from him, but at least we know he is alive.

he is 93. Talked to him today, he's doing fairly well, his mind is still razor sharp. He weights only 100 lbs. He was a big man 6'4" 180 lbs.

16. We are both pretty lucky to have our dads around so long
My dad's still pretty sharp too, especially his political opinions. He doesn't shrink from using the word "fascist" in his LTTEs. ;-)

PS. Love your user name. BTW, my great, great grandfather was Constantine Hering. I often ask those who have gone to the "other side" to send their positive, healing energy over for those who need it. I will call on him to help with your Dad's healing. Blessings to you and your family!

17. If such things are possible, Hering's guiding spirit is welcomed
I am quite impressed by your ancestry. Hering is something of hero of mine. I even have a reprint of his 1836 bestseller "The Homeopathic Domestic Physician." It was originally sold with a remedy kit and many pioneers headed west with that as their only form of health care.

6. he's added to my list
I have no plans for Xmas - pretty much alone here. I think I'll maybe go to church tomorrow for Xmas.

I'll add your father to my list of those to pray for.

I lost my dad over 7 years ago and I know what it is like not having your dad around for the holidays.

I hope he recovers and gets well soon.

These can be tough times, especially during this time of year.

If I may make a suggestion. When you and yours go to visit him, make sure you clear the air of all that has held you back in the past...Clean up the yard, so to speak....:)

May your visits go well, and you receive only good news over the next few days...O8)

Even though he doesn't like my dogs and complains that I put too much sauce on my pasta, I've become very fond of him, since I lost my own father. And he has taught me a lot, especially about the world and about politics. I belong to the agnostics forum, but will say a prayer for them all, since I care about them all, just in case it helps.
