Wow. I just got a homelesss man for christmas.
He's in my shower now.

I got him at Costco earlier today and bought him a box of wine.

He was a gunner in Nam.

Thank you, Karma, for my Xmas present.

3. There's no VA her e that I know of...
It's the right thing to do.

I've convinced him to call his mother and daughter at the moment. That''s how I'm in here typing at the moment.

26. Thanks.
The situation has now gone to my family cutting me out of Christmas and Doyle does not want to be "locked up."

He has some pretty serious baggage from Nam and is trying the best he knows how. I have such a sadness in me at the moment that it is hard to type.

29. he doesn't have to be "locked up"
http://www1.va.gov/homeless/

They might be better able to help him if you can take the time to register him at the VA as a homeless veteran.

12. There are a couple in Alabama.
The closest one to Hunstville would be in Birmingham.

In Tennessee, there is Murfreesboro.

I don't know which one is closer to Huntsville (I'm a Chicago boy), but you can find other VA hospitals in the area using the pages I've linked for you.

You've done a totally awesome thing, man. :yourock:

27. I've suggested these and Doyle is not real happy about going back to the
hospital.

I'm open to suggestions and am realising again that often, doing the right thing is not easy. He's in bed now and I'm near tears.

Love.

13. There's homeless people in Huntsville?
Shit. Learn something new every day.

Will and I have friends in Huntsville, and I have a fundie brother I don't speak to up there. It gets cold in Huntsville this time of year. Good on you for taking care of this gentleman. Please send me a private message letting me know how Will and I can help: Will's a vet from the last Gulf War. I almost never check the e-mail account associated with my DU account.

28. Thanks....
Like so many good intentions, it's turned into a bit of a cunundrum. I Got informed that I should drop off the Xmas Turkey I'm going to cook tomorrow,

I've been disinvited to the family Xmas because I want to bring a homeless person with me.

I am seriously sickened by this turn of events.

23. That's a wonderful thing that you are doing
We have so many homeless Vet's in my town that I am ashamed of this country for not helping them.

You have a heart of gold and if everyone had a heart like yours our world would be a better place to live in.

I buy the homeless vet that stands in front of our grocery store a hot meal every time that I see him and I make him go inside the store and sit down and eat it. Most of the employees like him and they put extras in the bag to give to him.

VA's are hard to find in some cities.

25. Sadly, it has cost me Christmas with my family.
They are worried about exposing my nieces and nephews to an indigent.

I told my father I was ashamed of him and was practically disowned.

Fuck christmas.

I love humanity, it's just people I can't stand.

Peace.

31. You have the spirit of Christmas
Your nieces and nephews will have to encounter homeless people sometime in the future.

Your a godsend and don't let them bring you down. You need your family at Christmas so I would be torn between what I should do and what I shouldn't do.

I know that this is going to sound harsh but don't leave someone in your house unattended. I have been ripped off before by people that I thought that I knew for years.

Why don't you make an early dinner for you and your new friend and than go spend Christmas with your family. You could pay for a movie and pick your friend back up afterwords.

You also have the southern hospitality in your blood so it's hard to make decisions when it comes to heart felt issues that deal with hospitality.

God Speed, Peace & Merry Christmas!
