The words are just an excuse to have vocal sounds in a song.

If I hear a lyric that expresses something I haven't heard before, or something in a way I haven't heard it expressed before, I'll prick up my ears. But otherwise, no. There're more clichés floating around now in modern popular music than there've been since the days of Journey and Foreigner.
