Who else is NOT excited about being dragged to Xmas mass by family?
I know I sure am not excited. Out of a sense of obligation to my parents I will be forced to go to midnight mass tonight. I've tried to resist before but I get the guilt trip laid on me so I just submit.

My condolences to my fellow DUers who suffer the same fate.

1. My family doesn't do the church thing
They think that if you're a good person then you go to heaven no matter your religiousness. I don't believe in the afterlife.

5. I am an agnostic, but to my family that equates to athiest...
... which equals God hater. They have been on a mission to save my soul since I gave up on Catholicism 5 years ago.

I give in on Xmas eve just to shut them up and make them happy until Easter.

7. Ah, what the hell
If it makes them happy, then that's cool. It's the time of year to be making people happy.

2. Oh man, I don't envy you.
I used to fly back east for Christmas, and inevitably get roped into going to Mass. I haven't been for about ten years now. I doubt I could even pull it off anymore. I am so jaded to all that stuff now.

I would probably be disruptive to those around me, not by any actions, but just the vibes that would be transmitted. Actually, I would probably get freaked out by all the ooga-booga shit and have to leave.

3. I'm suffering with you buddy
I'm just going to suck it up. I will not go to communion however.

No fucking way. I don't care what anyone thinks.

4. Oy - I WISH my family would drag me to a church
At least they couldn't talk much during a service! No, for me, it's the "family dinner." We use the bread plate for the guilt course. Ugh.

6. Expect it to be super crowded, and to last forever.
Hope for the music to be good. Try to get intoxicated before you go. That's the Christmas spirit! Maybe I'll go with my parents next year. The last mass I went to was years ago, and was for a wedding.

8. Here, all of the churches have cancelled services today and tomorrow
due to the weather so that's decidedly not a concern.

10. Be grateful that you HAVE a family to drag you to Mass.
When I was younger, I used to hate the obligation of family times, but now I wish I had them. All I have left is my mother, and I'll be spending Christmas having dinner with her. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful that she is here, but I still feel very alone at not having big family celebrations to go to. These are the times when I get more depressed about not having an SO, and I fear that if I don't meet a man with whom I can spend my life, that I really will be all alone in my old age (or even before it). So try to at least enjoy the company of family members while they are still in your life.
