Out of everything you received, what was your favorite?

Mine was the Queen platinum CD that I got this morning. Queen is one of my favorite bands so it was a very nice surprise!

6. The one from my genealogy cousin out in L.A.....
We found each other through an archivist at the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, where I did a search for her great grandfather.

Her great grandmother and my great grandfather were brother and sister.

She makes jewelry, so she made me a genealogy charm bracelet! It has little charms of a covered wagon, a lady w/ a butter churn, a farmer w/ a shotgun, two types of trees, a little silver birth certificate, a little marraige certificate w/ tiny rings, and a little New York State (where our common ancestors migrated from).

That was so thoughtful and cute. Fits perfectly. And I love wearing it. :-)

I mentioned it here when the package arrived earlier this week, but I'll reiterate for those who may have missed it the last time around.

Progmom sent me eight jazz CDs for Christmas! Anita O'Day, Sonny Rollins, Duke Ellington, Carmen MacRae, Louis Armstrong, Bobby Timmons.... Excellent music for which Progmom has my eternal gratitude and friendship! :loveya:

19. a picture from Parliament Cigs...
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 07:19 PM by annabanana
Breif explanation..
Last year my honey had a very very bad auto accident.. I had to leave my teenagers (GOOD boys) on their own while I commuted back and forth the 200 miles between home and the hopital where he'd been taken. This went on for over a month. During that time we got a promo from the cig company that was the very blue (logo-free) photo of a sea and sky, separated by the tiniest spit of a sandbar with birds dotting it.

I found it a respit as I trudged through the snow and ice on my journeys and it had a calming effect on me. So I stuck it with tape on the kitchen wall.

Time passed, Honey healed, pic fell off and got lost in general houshold mess and confusion.

Eldest boy (17) found it,saved it, hid it, framed it and gave it to me today.

26. Potty Training Elmo (for my two year old son)
It's a very cute stuffed animal type toy one of my friend's bought for my son. Elmo will ask for a drink, and then when you put his sippy cup in his mouth he makes sipping sounds. He says "thank you" afterward, and sometimes he'll ask for more drink. Shortly after you give Elmo a drink (not a real drink, btw), Elmo asks to use the potty. If you get him to the potty in time then he sings a little song. If you don't get him to the potty on time, he'll say something about not making to the potty on time. Sometimes when Elmo is on the potty he'll say he no longer needs to go.

This toy will be very helpful with potty training my son. He loves Elmo too. He already trys to feed Elmo a bottle, but he hasn't gotten the part about putting Elmo on the potty yet.

My husband and I didn't get all that much for ourselves.

27. Several years ago my husband had to cut my engagement ring
off my finger -- it was pretty much destroyed. It is a very simple 1/4 karat solitaire. He had it reset with two smaller diamonds on either side. It it so beautiful and it brought tears to my eyes! This was our 20th Christmas together. I love it. I also LOVE the toaster he got me -- a 4 slicer with a "reheat" option. What more could a toast loving girl ask for!!!!

29. Peridot earrings from my husband to replace a set I lost
He bought the original set for me twenty years ago when we were married. I lost them last year on a business trip. Left them in my hotel room safe and forgot them when I checked out. I was sad - they weren't that valuable but they had a lot of meaning to me.

He got me a new set for Christmas even more beautiful than the original. He remembered! What a sweetie.

30. I have to explain why this is my favorite gift:
My grandfather led an extremely interesting and varied life, beginning life as a Latvian peasant and ending up as an attorney and schoolteacher in Minneapolis.

About twenty years ago, my mother wrote up his story for a creative writing class but never did anything with it.

Earlier this year, my youngest brother's son had to complete a genealogy project for school, and in the course of helping him with web searches, my brother found all sorts of information relevant to our grandfather's story.

For Christmas, he gave each of us a printed-up book containing the text of Mom's narrative with relevant information and photographs taken off the Internet, including early 20th century pictures of Latvia, Russia, the city in Algeria where our grandfather was stationed with the French Foreign Legion (yes, there was that episode, too), the ship that brought him to the States, and the various places in this country where he spent time before settling in Minneapolis.

I loved it, because it was both unique and meaningful.
