Repuke inlaws "did quite well in 2004" (financially)
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 04:10 PM by Bouncy Ball
My repukey inlaws told us today, by phone, that they did "unusually well, financially" in 2004. They thanked, in part, bush's policies. Which made my husband throw up a little in his mouth.

Guess how much they give to charity?

Zero.

Yeah, glad it's going so well for you, inlaws. Not so glad that things are so bad for most of the rest of America.

My inlaws are part of that group that bush called his base. The "haves."

Father in law offered to pay for my continuing education. I said no. A) I don't want any part of their money and B) they love to lord it over you, even when it is a gift. No thanks.

I suggested that maybe their local homeless shelter could use some help and he snorted, then laughed. I half expected him to, Scrooge-like, say, "Are there not debtor's prisons for them to go to? Work houses?"

Sigh. Yeah, Merry Christmas.

1. Merry Christmas to you (and coal for them....)
I saw "A Christmas Carol" last week with my parents, and when Scrooge gave that little speech, a young woman sitting behind us said, "Scrooge was a Republican!" really loudly and everyone around us laughed.

Christ said that the poor will always be among us. Apparently selfish assholes will be as well. Sigh.

Merry Christmas, BB! :hi:

2. Thank you sweetie!
I hope you had a nice Christmas!

"Well then they better go on and die then!" Right?

Scrooge was DEFINITELY a repuke. Until he saw the light! LOL!

"Christ said that the poor will always be among us. Apparently selfish assholes will be as well. Sigh."

I'm afraid you are right, on both counts.

Christ also said "For whatsoever you do to the least among you, you do also to me." That's a republican's LEAST favorite Bible quote, don'tcha know?

8. I avoid them as much as possible.
And since they live very far away, that is blessedly easy. I normally don't even get on the phone, but the father in law requested to speak to me this time.

:puke:

4. What Would Jesus Do?
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 04:23 PM by ocelot
This can be a nice rhetorical question to ask Republicans (at least those that call themselves Christians) when they go off on the "undeserving" poor. I don't remember anything from Sunday School about how Jesus interrogated people to determine whether they were "worthy" before deciding to help them...

6. Yep.
Jesus also never said anything about asking the recipient of your help how they are going to use your help before giving it.

5. Alternate Minimum Tax
Did you ask about that? My family did well also despite Bush.

7. Don't know what that is.
Do tell.

We aren't exactly bad off, but it was rather infuriating to hear him snort and laugh at the idea of giving to the homeless when they have done so well on the backs of others. I mean, in order to finance those great tax cuts, the money had to come from somewhere, and programs have been cut and my child will have to pay back this deficit for years and years to come (heck, her children will probably have to, too).

I really can't stand them. They have some money too - and absolutely no taste!

This is actually a better read:

O'Reilly Hit With Sex Harass Suit
Female Fox coworker details lewd behavior of cable TV star

OCTOBER 13--Hours after Bill O'Reilly accused her of a multimillion dollar shakedown attempt, a female Fox News producer fired back at the TV star today, filing a lawsuit claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment and spoke often, and explicitly, to her about phone sex, vibrators, threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and sexual fantasies. Below you'll find a copy of Andrea Mackris's complaint, an incredible page-turner that quotes O'Reilly, 55, on all sorts of lewd matters. Based on the extensive quotations cited in the complaint, it appears a safe bet that Mackris, 33, recorded some of O'Reilly's more steamy soliloquies. For example, we direct you to his Caribbean shower fantasies. While we suggest reading the entire document, TSG will point you to interesting sections on a Thailand sex show, Al Franken, and the climax of one August 2004 phone conversation. (22 pages)

11. I have some Repuke neighbors who gave me an old microwave
when they got a new one. They were going to throw it out and I was unemployed so I asked if I could have it. They ask about the microwave frequently, I'll bet they listed it on their taxes!

12. I can't stand that.

My dad always says if you give someone a GIFT, it is a GIFT. It is no longer any of your business how they use it, if they use it or what they do with it.

He once had to give my famously irresponsible brother an inheritance from a grandfather that was a check for $5000. Family members told my dad to put it in some kind of account where he could be the custodian and my brother (24 at the time) couldn't blow it, but my dad refused. He said "My dad said, in his will, to GIVE it to him. And he's an adult. If I give it to him and he goes out and blows it all tomorrow, it's none of my business. A gift is a gift."

So he gave it to my brother, he blew it within a few months and my father never said a word about it.

Would it shock you to tell you my father is a Democrat and a member of the religious LEFT?

I thought not.

13. That's a great story, Bouncy Ball.
It illustrates how Democrats do not seek to impose their values on others in a sick and ritualistic manner.

You should be proud of your dad. He stood by free will, and did not bully.

Wish that all were like him.

15. I would have taken their money...
An education is the gift that keeps on giving. When you can, you can always pay them back.

17. Oh no
they SAY it's a gift, no need to pay it back, but then the GIFT is mentioned over and over and over again in a very showy "aren't you so lucky we're your inlaws?" kinda way. It is most assuredly not worth it at all. And even if you pay it back (which we did, with a gift of money once because we were so sick of hearing about it) they STILL keep reminding you how wonderful they were to give it in the first place.

They also try to emotionally manipulate my husband a lot when they do that. Which is why we haven't taken a "gift" of money from them in about seven years. Guess what? We still get reminded of the last one, SEVEN years ago.

Not worth it at all.

18. You obviously don't understand.
They will give a "hand up" not "hand outs." You should really wish that they had MORE money, because it's the wealthy of our society that carry society. In time, they will invest the money in America, creating jobs for Americans, and raising the well-being of all of us. Poor people don't create jobs--your in-laws do. Why do you hate America?
