I just don't get it. Never have. They go left am I correct? and they drive fast? and occasionally they put new tires on and more gas? And they have teammates who block opposing cars out? Ok I get that much...now explain to me why this is even remotely interesting? I'm serious here...I'm a big sports fan. I love the competition. I just don't understand why NASCAR exists. Please someone explain the appeal?
Mods: can you move this to the lounge? sorry!

1. there is a direct correlation |
|
between the popularity of nascar and the stupidity of the american public
it goes hand in hand with the dumbing down process

that it matters to you that there are plenty of NASCAR fans here at DU, does it? Kinda shoots a hole in your theory, eh?
Or are you just better than all of them?

2. They drive really fast and turn left every once in a while |
|
and when that happens I think you're supposed to power-guzzle a quart of beer.
Of course I could be wrong.

the thrill of death, as long as nobody actually gets hurt all that badly.
Nap, read a book, wait for the squealing tires and watch the replay.

beats the hell out of me. The cars all look alike and they go around in a circle. I can understand road racing with vintage racers; NASCAR holds no appeal for me whatever.

tho Im not a NASCAR fan I have a lot of friends who are and have dated NASCAR fan-girls....
It's the speed - like a lot of sports NASCAR fans visualize themselves in the seat of the given car. IMHO PPV companies could make ALOT of money if they sold broadcasts from inside a given driver's car, for example Dale Earnhardt Jr.
It's the thrill of a crash - when cars wreck in NASCAR they WRECK! 100+ MPH will do all kinds of damage.
It's not a fast changing sport - you can bring the family there, hang out, talk with them. I've been to one race and unlike Football or Basketball, the fans don't sit silent on the edge of their seats. They hang out, drink talk and have a good time.
Feel free to add or subtract to any NASCAR fans out there....
