The man who is directly responsible for the Oklahoma City bombing
through his virulent spread of hatred is constantly given a boost here by talking about him and quoting his show. I am, of course, talking about that lover of all things nazi, rush. I know we are all in a titter because we were mentioned on his site or by him or something. We lend credence to him even when what we say is negative and boost his ability to "communicate" his message everytime he gets a reaction from us. (Two things, first, I know that I am doing what I am preaching against with this thread and second I do appreciate the information about his sponsors.)

2. In my mind, they are directly related. Even if it is only by the climate
of hatred that "he" has made acceptable in the U.S.

4. Well maybe I should have used something more generic to refer to
his allowed dissemination of hatred. I am sure you are probably right about the information that is commonly known about OKC. Perhaps I should have just said the "person who makes it okay not only to hate but who gets paid to preach it".

6. Are you at all concerned at how much about him there is here on DU?
It really bothers me that he commands so much attention, even though it is negative.

7. "Directly" is a little strong...
but that piece of shit has made hate respectable again.

Then you got Liddy mouthing off about headshots, and the rest of the crew orgasmic over any dirt they can dish and inciting the troops to riot.

I remember back when we were trashing Goldwater as a rightwinger. We never got as low as these guys. We got a little over the top with him and Nixon sometimes, but nothing like this.

The viciousness, arrogance, self-righteouosness, and ability to lie with a straight face astound me.

It frightens me that so few seem to care.

9. Ever heard of Father Coughlin?
It's not like Pigboy is anything new. Coughlin, though, was far more complex, and infinitely more powerful. He built his audience as a socialist and worker's advocate, and kept some of that as he changed to a raving Nazi sympathizer. During WWII, he was a loon and was shut down, although the government never "officially" had a hand in taking him off the air. Free speech and all, you know.

and realize that while technology changes, human nature never does.

10. He sounds like he had a great deal of power .
"Coughlin believed the best way of combating the appeal of these ideologies was the introduction of reforms that would make America a more equal society. This included industrialists paying their workers a "just and living wage" and 'providing old age compensation insurance." He also denounced the greed and corruption of America's industrialists and warned about the dangers of the "concentration of wealth in the hands of the few.'" Interesting stuff. I can't believe he was not allowed to use the mail for his magazine.
