Just saw 14 copies of "Farenhype 9/11" in the bargain bin at |
|
my local video store. They were DVDs and they were on sale for TWO dollars each.
I walked over and saw that Fahrenheit 9/11 is still in the New Release section, tons of display copies, but all the rental copies are out, as usual.
I couldn't help but ask about it and the girl working there said "Yeah we're always out of that one. It's pretty popular." She shrugged her shoulders. I asked about the Farenhype ones. She said "WHICH ones?" a couple of times before I brought over a copy then I asked her if they would possibly take less than $2 for it.
She went to get the assistant manager, a guy who came out, looked at what I had in my hand and said "We've been told we can sell those for whatever we want. You can have it for 50 cents."
I said thanks, I'd think about it, but the price was still a bit too high. He laughed.
I rented the movies I was getting and left.

Nobody outside of wingnut circles wants to see those Pravda-like anti-Moore films. Take that, Bush-lovers! :kick:

I also saw some puke inducing DVD on "Bush's Faith." I noticed that one copy has been sitting there every time I'm in.
The two copies for "Bush's Brain" are ALWAYS out and I want to see it!
Then there was some sappy movie about bush and 9/11 and how supposedly wonderful he was at the time (it is dramatized....some guy plays bush) and that is always there, too.

If this is the one that I'm thinking of, I think the guy that plays bush in the 9/11 flick is the same one that played him in "That's My Bush", which is just hillarious...

10. Actually, DVDs are discs, not tapes. |
|
And I'm pretty sure you can't record over them. Sorry!
OTOH, a bargain-bin copy of FARENHYPE 9/11 might just make a good drink coaster!

16. I thought about that. |
|
Then I thought I'd rather not even register a sale for it, not even at 50 cents, which I'm positive is a loss for the video store.
I got curious about something, so I called them up just now and talked to the same guy. Here's how the conversation went:
Me: "Yeah, I was just in there, asking about the Farenhype DVDs...I was wondering what Hollywood Video does with DVDs that simply don't ever sell at any price.."
He laughed and said "They get thrown out."
Me: "Literally?"
Him: "Yeah, literally. We bundle them up and send them to a place that disposes of them. Those Farhenhype DVDs are three days away from being sent out."
Me: "When did that thing come out? Couldn't have been TOO long ago, as Fahrenheit 9/11 just came out in June."
Him: "Um, I can't remember exactly, but I think August or September."
Me: "Is that pretty fast for being sent out for disposal?"
Him: "The fastest I've seen. Are you writing a story or something?"
I told him I was not, just curious, thanked him and got off the phone.

30. More evidence that one-half plus of Americans may not have voted for * |
|
I mean, if it's true that more than half the people who voted wanted chimp back in office, wouldn't they be snapping up videos reflecting his campaign's point of view?
They're not. More evidence of election fraud.

it's (((((crap))))). I wouldn't know where to begin to explain to you why. It "stars" mostly Dick Morris and Zell Miller and the lovely Ann Coulter...

14. I should have taken notes when I watched it. |
|
so I could explain why it was wrong wrong wrong. My short term memory is bad with movies. Let's just say I didn't accept most of the premises' of the various refutations of Moores film. They interviewed a few military personal after, I am sure, they told them, "Michael Moore just trashed you guys in this movie and what do you think of THAT?" which of course he DIDN'T do.

8. That reminds me of the books right-wing groups buy in bulk |
|
just to get them on the NY Times bestseller list. They're then sold on right-wing websites at a rate 10 for a dollar or some similarily ridiculous rate.
The goal isn't to make a profit. It's to get attention.

18. A movie. "The Daily Show" did a report about it. |
|
The "filmmaker" - and I use the narrowest possible definition of that word - was just walking around with a small crew and a video camera, asking random people if they wanted to talk about America in his "movie."
Most people said "no."
The rest of the report dealt with the "filmmaker" and his attempts to get an interview with Mr. Moore himself. After all, why wouldn't Michael Moore want to appear in a film called Michael Moore Hates America?
Samantha Bee, doing the report, walked down a street while commenting on the elusive and hermetic nature of Moore. Then she walked past - Michael Moore. It was hilarious. :D

It makes a very satisfying crunching sound. Would I pay 50-cents? Nah - make them eat the inventory.

|
If they're used DVD's then they've already been bought and paid for by the store and they're just trying to make a few more bucks. If they're new though, that's interesting. They probably are trying to boost the numbers. When Mel doesn't get all the Oscars nominations he wants, he can go into his martyr mode.
