A few months back I bought the Fahrenheit 911 DVD.
Took it home, popped it into my Sony DVD player, and the thing would not play. I also have a Sanyo player, and the disc plays fine on it.
Anybody have any theories or suggestions as to why the disc works on one, but not both, players? Is the disc incompatible with the Sony player, for whatever reason, and is there anything I can to do the player to get it to accept this disc?

It's never had any problems playing any other disc.
The DVD was bought here (in U.S.), and according to the packaging, it should be compatible with the player. That was the first thing I checked when the disc wouldn't play. All the settings seem to be correct on the player, too.

2. Sometimes you can update the firmware on a standalone player. |
|
That might help.
What's the model number of the Sony player and I'll see if I can find a link to a firmware update.

Thanks for taking the time to look. I appreciate it.
It's just really annoying and puzzling, is all.

3. Perhaps the DVD is set up to play in ALL regions.... |

...and some will not play those types...will only play region 1 DVDs. I copied some DVDs for my sister and copied them as playable in all regions --- hers would not play them. But when I re-copied them specifiing Region 1 they worked like a champ. The owner's manual should specify what regions will play in it.

7. Just looked on the F 911 packaging... |
|
It is marked region 1. This also corresponds to what is on the back of the player. (That was the first thing I looked at when it wouldn't play.)
I'm looking at the owner's manual again, and it says that if a disc is incompatible, a message will show on the screen. That does not happen. Nothing comes up.
And I don't think the disc can be defective, or else it would not work on the other player.

9. Not entirely true...some players are more forgiving of defects than others |
|
It could be slightly defective still.
