6. If half of the people on DU have one sock puppet
Wouldn't that mean that DU has 30,000 members instead of 60,000 members?

Or

What if someone has created a whole group of sock puppets that agree with each other? When sock puppets attack :D

And

What if you figured out someone's sock puppet because of a message that they posted in ATA. Would you let them know? I did and the person had a knipshin over it.

17. But None Of Those Have Ever Been BANNED, Right?
You just changed them because you were tired of the monikker, or because it didn't fit your personality any more, or because it didn't convey the proper amount of humor. (Or perhaps you actually DO have multiple personalities. :hi:)

That's a far cry from the people who are BANNED and then return time and time again using a different username.

Technically speaking, is that a "sock puppet" or a "Zombie" from the dead?

19. True, I've never been banned -except for that one time with the spam guard
I changed the first time because someone else had a very similar name, the second time because I was bored and work was looking into internet usuage, the third time because the name I chose was really dumb. :hi:

32. sock puppet is a never banned guy
Zombie is returning from the "dead", after being tombstoned. So, yep, Allen, you are correct. While sock puppets may be kind of annoying and "artificial" - to use a polite term, a zombie is in no way acceptable and when discovered will be nuked again. If people think their accounts were turned off unjustly then they should follow the instructions on the notice they get and try to get re-instated.

Should we click alert? Or should we just give then enough rope to hang themselves?

34. Better to alert than antagonize
but yeah, the rate of users these days is pretty high - we can always use the help via alert from users. A PM is always accpetable, too.

Happy Holidays!

37. No, then all the people on DU would have sockpuppets
Mathematically half the people have sock puppets (we'll assume those who have sock puppets have 1 sockpuppet)

60000= 1X+2Y where X is the number of honest non-sockers and Y is the number of deceiving sock puppeteers. X+Y is the true number of DUers and because half of the Duers have sock puppets X=Y. Substitute to get 3X= 60,000 and X=20,000 so the true number of DUers is 40,000

35. yeah little kids can be pretty sensitive
to movies at that age. My son flipped out when he first saw Emperor Zurg in Toy Story 2 and had to be taken screaming from the theater. He loved Polar Express, though, we saw it twice. :)

I guess a sockpuppet is where some-one has two usernames and they use the second one to agree with stuff the first one said.
