Just saw the "Manchurian Candidate"...parts based on reality... |
|
...might include (in my opinion):
- Candidates are "owned" my mega-corporations - Candidates speak nothing but sound-bites for the cameras - Political foes who mysteriously die in accidents are actually killed - Candidates are almost as much pawns as the American people
What has the right-wing said about this movie? I think its a scathing indictment of all that they stand for.
Thoughts?

1. I'll have to check that out |
|
I've seen the original, but not the remake. Sounds good.

2. Haven't seen the movie, but points 1, 2 and 4 seem... |
|
to be self-evident to anyone who follows the news.
As far as point 3, which political foes are you thinking about?

6. Carnahan, Hatfield, Webb, the list goes on and on and on |

The thought occured to me this AM when I heard one of the Bush mouth pieces use the word "spectacular" to describe the job one of their minion was doing. That is the word they always use. Listen to their public statements, and listen for that word. It reminded me of that identical "prerecorded" speech that all the guys made in the movie.

3. I was just thinking about this film tonight (the remake). It was a good |
|
summary of our current problems. As I recall, if you listened to the background "news casts", that pretty much told the story of the duplicity. My thought tonight was, wouldn't it be wonderful if there were intelligence agents like those in the film! Then I thought...but, of course, that's not the case. Hope I'm wrong.

4. agreed! I did enjoy the "news casts" as well... |
|
...a good way to highlight many of the issue going on today. (One bit of note: a story of a group protesting voting fraud by dressing up as hanging chads - or something like this!)
I dearly wish we had some "good guys" like the lead female agent.

7. I saw it the other night |
|
It was good, but not great. Although, Denzel does a hell-a-job acting which might be considered great. Makes you think of the schizos who believe the government has implanted a chip in them.
I loved the themes from the recent election but the real life scumbags, lying pieces of shit politicians who are really controlled by corporate interests are willingly fucking us and the world. Not that there isn't some symbolism there, I guess.
